It's already March! Wow, time flies by so quickly when you're busy... What educational goals do you have for this year, are you planning anything? There are still a few cheapies or freebies I want to finish for Coursera/EdX.
My wife is back in school to knock out the prerequisite courses for PA School. So my goal is to support her as she supported me during my academic journey.
Another thing or two I want to learn is to "learn the ropes of getting and keeping fit", similar to what a personal trainer does, train someone to keep fit with diet and exercise. I really need and want to go through something like that, and there was a course that had ACE credit, I might just go for it! I am looking to pick up some courses in accounting to better understand the financial records being kept at my American Legion post... I am in training to one day possibly take over for our finance officer who is a retired professional accountant and he has a complex method of bookkeeping records that is rather confusing to me... his advice was to pick up courses in Accounting 1 and 2 and I would be ok. I have only 'informal' experience in bookkeeping so I probably need to follow his advice.
Still evaluating my next credential: MBA, MEd, MA, or EdS. Looking for the right combination of value: cost (looking for what can be covered 100% by employer spreading it over a couple of years) effort / time commitment, and material that appeals to me, would be relevant to my career and might fulfil some goals for future me. It's been 4 years since I completed by MS, and I feel like I've been evaluating programs ever since, lol. Feeling the desire to either start something this fall...or just forget about it altogether.
Put simply, to remain competitive. I'm 53, have been at my current position/employer for the past 5+ years, and will most likely remain for at least another 5-10 unless something drastic changes. I work as part of the instructional design team, my future plans would be to move into management/leadership roles, OR if I stay in the current position - to work as a consultant of some kind after I leave the job. As for WHICH credential? MBA's are almost always seen as a universal "plus" credential in the business world, regardless of prestige and would be covered by my employer without much question as to utility and would provide "cache" as a consultant in the future.. I would be looking at MEd credentials in Adult Education/Training/Development which correlates directly with my job, and if I moved into consulting within that particular field, would also be seen as a "plus" to my current MS degree, and finally I would be looking at either MA's (or in one specific case, an MEd program that I found - see other thread) in either Organizational Management or Leadership. These would expand on the "softer skills" of what an MBA touches on, without the finance and data analytics. All which would be considered a plus as a consultant depending on what kind of consultant I wanted to be.

You’re welcome! That’s one of the great things about Coursera. If you don’t need a degree, you can earn certificates for a reasonable cost. Or even “audit” a course for free. If this doesn’t quite cover what you need, you can choose from hundreds of accounting courses and see if any of those fit your needs. I happen to be going through this bookkeeping program. It’s laid out very well. They are doing it sort of “Bar Rescue” style, which helped grab my attention.
