I know that (re: Prof. Dr. Sir John). I was not implying that this French private University was of the same dubious quality typical of the unaccredited Florida religious-exemption schools. I was critical of your phrase "unaccredited, State-approved religious school." hat I said that sounded like a Florida-exempt (which Domuni clearly isn't.) What it is - is a private University without State Recognition,
That means, absent of anything else that would clearly give its degrees some clout -- Domuni degrees would be legally issued, without
necessarily having any standing, I hope it's clear noe.
Or move to Gambia. Worked for Euclid.

"Srećko Koralija holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge (Divinity Faculty) where he was a Vice-Chancellor's Scholar. His PhD thesis focused on the linguistic and corpus-based relationship between different versions of ancient translations of biblical texts in the wider socio-cultural context. He developed a method of semantic analysis of lexemes in a socio-cultural environment. Equally, he holds three Master degrees: one in Theology [patristics] from Fribourg (Switzerland) , one in Syriac Studies from the University of Oxford, and one in Oriental Studies also from the University of Oxford. He is a passionate polyglot mastering several ancient and modern languages. His research interests generally focus on the semantic relationship between language and other forms of knowledge (e.g. socio-cultural and work environment, human behavior, ethics and morality, decision-making)."

@Garp Does his presence there mean Domuni is now officially "in the fold" and benefits from the full degree-granting and approval Authority of the Dominican Order? If so, how why & when - nobody from Domuni has made that clear. At all. This appears to be your personal inference. I don't necessarily share it.

Just because a school has hired a brilliant professor, or even a renowned Theologian .... you know. I'll believe Domuni has full unbesmirched degree-awarding capability - from a Government - from the Dominican Order - of from G*d Himself -- when I see it.

Ammo. Ammo Ammo. (It's the American way, I guess). :) Too bad the Dominicans don't support their good people better in their valiant efforts. The school needs to have unassailable degree granting authorization from the Order - rather than "praise and hope for the future." I'm sure all it would take is a decree or even a Memorandum of some sort. What are they waiting for?

Let me know when the good Domuni people have that in their hands. That would change everything. Nothing else will.

The Socius of the Master of the Order for the Intellectual Life Fr. Pablo Carlos Sicouly, O.P. not only allowed them to be listed (under Dominican Universities) but to write:

"Domuni Universitas is a higher education institution founded by the Dominican Order (Order of Preachers)."

Must mean something. I would think they would not allowed it to be listed that way were there issues with it.

And then at least a couple of the scholars we could see associated with the University are top quality accomplished Dominican academics to say the least.

Yes. But in view of the kerfuffle over the online school's degrees --- exactly what, if anything in that context? Nothing from the school so far - and nothing from the Order except praise and hope for the future. And further instructions about English.

Know what I think? The Order may have some reservations about the Online programs being ready for Prime Time, as they see it. Not sure, but it has that vibe. Well, per your list, they've obviously got some of their best people working on it. We'll see...

If anyone is interested here is a list of their faculty. There are three pages.

I believe I saw on some page that to apply for the PhD program you have to be able to speak two modern languages one of which has to be English. If that is actually the case then that certainly impacts Americans since we are lucky to speak English let alone an additional modern language.

I believe for the PhD in theology at John MacArthur's Masters Seminary you are required to have biblical languages, English, and then a modern theological language like German. Pretty significant scholarship involved to end up probably struggling to find an academic job in a tight market.

If there wasn't a suitable position in theology for a grad, they'd at least have some other opportunities in the language field - teaching German, maybe English, Koine (New Testament Greek) possibly Latin, Biblical Hebrew, Aramaic, Ugaritic etc. Possibly leading to head of a Biblical Languages Department in a respectable Seminary or other religious school. Experts might find roles in Archaaeology, History Depts., Museums, Academic libraries...

Languages - old or modern - are ALL good things to know. And there's no academic skill I respect more. :)

Well, at least it wasn't "Socialist Sicouly." :) Socius = friend, comrade, ally (First Year Latin - 1955. I was 12.)
