In fairness, it's unclear from the article whether the institute is really bullshiats or whether UGC is just overstepping again.

Looks like the university violated jurisdiction by opening study centers outside it's State.

I've been trying, ever since I first saw the school on the UGC/DEB approved list. It occurred to me, however, that it's a darn good thing the school included Agriculture programs!

    Good Things:
    - 20% of the courses can be taken from online MOOCs from a government-sponored program (https://swayam.gov.in/)

    Bad Things:
    - Professiona Degrees (Engineering, Medicine, Dentistry, Architecture, Physiotheraphy etc) still can not be offered through DL. Can understand Medicine and related, but Engineering? There are schools in US and elsewhere that offer Engineering degrees through DL.

It is disappointing that India does not want to lead on this. There are millions of Indian descendants scattered around the world who will like to make the connection to the motherland. Education may just be the ideal vehicle. Many of their ancestors were taken from India by the u.k as indentured slaves.

Are you sure? A large number of Indians, born and raised in India prefer to get their education, or their children's, elsewhere. There are many, many Indian students in the college where I'm sitting right now. So many, they may actually have become a majority, I'm not sure. India now has a middle class of more than 200 million and it seems more and more of that class can afford to send their offspring to Canada or elsewhere - and here, they pay roughly two-and-a half times the domestic tuition rate.

I think more Indians are trying to sever their connection to India, rather than re-establish it. I'm sure they have their reasons.
