This page mentions that there is one, but I didn't find anything more substantial. I'd say that's an excellent question for Dr. Kumar. :)

No. I would not be surprised if you have to pay "extra" under the table to get your transcripts on time or even the diploma. visit I PAID A BRIBE to see how rampant corruption in India is.

Steve has asked a good question. I'm guessing that the doctoral programs are there, they'rejust not seen as being dl degrees, they are research degrees like we find in south africa. Speaking of which, is india becoming south africa in the world of dl?

Well, I am enrolled in Symbiosis Distance learning. Scdl.org for teaching English. I plan on transferreing those courses to Excelsior College and apply for a teacher's license.

As interesting as it might be, I'm not certain that the St. Charles Dart League is relevant to this discussion.:sigh:

I know. I was just having a bit of fun. Tell us about this organization. Why not simply go through one of the actual schools?

So far this entity/Dr. Kumar has not responded to e-mail requests. This is concerning because it does not indicate the presence of a good business model (ie even an autoresponder if out of office). It is also concerning because of the fact that if you cannot get questions answered from their "contact us if you have questions" e-mail, how will you get undergrad, grad or doctoral level supervision?

American tuition for a smiliar program is $4,000+ Their froeign tuition is $400. I do not know when this ESL (English as a second Language) gig is going to be over. So I am saving as much money as I can.

I too sent email to both his listed email addresses on Friday, so far without result. He's evidently right on the Chesapeake Bay, however, so it's possible that he was hit hard by Hurricane Irene and this is an unusual situation for him.

I have similar experiences with a lot of Public Universities in US including Texas A&M Commerce. I have the same question "how will you get undergrad, grad or doctoral level supervision?" I guess the education administrators have laid-back approach in all the countries including India. Privite schools/businesses are always eager to communicate with you.

I heard back from Dr. Kumar. He was friendly and informative. Fees for Americans are $2000 per year, doctorates typically take three years, so that's $6000 total if you don't dawdle. One's Master's must be the same discipline as the doctorate, but it's okay if a thesis wasn't part of the Master's degree.

He seems to prefer phone calls to email, so anyone who wants to know more could try calling him at 410-326-8080.

Which Indian school does Dr. Kumar represent in US ?. Is that university accredited by UGE/AICTE in India which is similar to Regional Accreditation here.

Per his website (THE INTERNATIONAL TAMIL UNIVERSITY, USA), they are representing:
    1. Madurai Kamaraj University
    2. Maharshi Dayanand University
    3. Bharathiar University.

All these are accredited by UGC/AICTE. However, my understanding is that while Undergraduate courses might be easily evaluated and transferred, Graduate courses might not be. It might be a good idea to check with your prospective US university to make sure they transfer foreign (graduate) credits.

Looks like they offer PhD in History at the moment ( THE INTERNATIONAL TAMIL UNIVERSITY, USA ). Is that right? Which of the above Universities offer Phd in Management or Business ?

    I think - none.

Phd (and some professional graduate degrees) in India (think of STEM in USA) are subsidized (funded) by UGC. Hence, most of these are not available through online or distance education modes, and even if they do, they are not yet available outside India. Some Phd programs might be "part-time" or "External", which still need face-to-face interaction time to time.

Indian Universities have just started coming out of their shyness for online studies and for foreign students. It's still a long way to go.

Interesting. While Dr. Kumar only supervises History doctoral candidates, he didn't seem to think that it would be difficult to find faculty members in other disciplines to supervise foreign doctoral candidates.

    A cautionary reminder...

This doesn't apply to the universities under recent discussion in this thread - just a reminder of the necessity for due diligence when dealing with schools abroad.

A very few years ago, - maybe 5 or 6 - the relatively new central Indian state of Chhatisgarh had an "explosion" in distance ed. About thirty new distance-education universities opened with "State Approval" and began offering distance degrees at low prices - incredibly so to Westerners. Very enthusiastic comments abounded for a short time in the fora.

Not so long after - there was a corresponding implosion: EVERY ONE of these universities was closed down for good. (NO UGC approval).

Moral - when dealing abroad, make double-damn sure....

Has anyone had any luck finding an Indian university that is affordable and easy to communicate with where you can earn a PhD without residency?

There are plenty of DL schools but the sites are not easy to understand and communication non existent.

This guy mentioned early in the thread (Dr. Kumar) is very helpful and gracious but can only supervise history PhD students for the university that is mentioned.
