DegreeInfo.com will be three years old in about two weeks. The registration data reveal the following breakdown by year (not cumulative) -

Year one - 1,235 members registered

Year two - 1,318 members registered

Year three - 2,340 members registered

Thought this might be of interest to some.

    Interesting.....

And other stats? e.g. how many 'active' members, geographic dispersion etc?

You would have to define what you mean by active before that could be evaluated.

As to geographics, I wouldn't even want to try. :) Many members don't list their location, others do so within a post. Of the ones who do list a location, a variety of abbreviations are found.

I just found the "who's online" feature, I was very surprised how many guests are signed on at any given time.

I'd regard having posted within the recent past (say 1 month) as active.

Using that definition, 449 members have one or more posts in the past month.

How many guests come through in one day, on average?

Most posts in one day (though I think I know that one)?

Who was the first registered user?

That would have to come from the server logs as it isn't recorded by the forum software. Safe to say it's in the many hundreds.

Most posts in one day (though I think I know that one)?
I'll work on it, but I'm not sure there's a way to come at that number other than by the tedious method of pulling up one day at a time. My very unofficial count is ~260, several times.

Who was the first registered user?
    Chip.

I think degreeinfo should have some annual awards -- e.g. person with most relevant posts, most irrelevant posts, most inflammatory posts (Frenchie and Rich tied), wittiest posts (Janko, no question), best-written posts (Gus), most obscene posts (Levicoff), most polls (Gina), etc. The actual awards could be fake degrees from well-known degree mills (or from Torquemada U. for Janko).

I know this is in jest, but I get this sometimes and I think it's unfair. Look how often I get flamed and by whom. I post some info on the limited utility of degrees from DETC schools and five guys call me a liar. Another guy tries to steal my dissertation and I'm a bad guy for pointing it out. And then there's just the gratuitous b.s. that occasionally gets tossed out there.

Anytime you see me making an "inflammatory remark," just look into earlier posts on that thread. You'll always find the source in someone else's post.

I take it. But I don't take it quietly. And I don't start 'em. But I end 'em.

I don't get the cause of some of the flames, but have to admit, when I first came here, I e-mailed Rich directly to why there were people gunning for him. I still don't get a great deal of the comments, but I do say that Rich doesn't start the ones I have read.

disclaimer: This from somebody who doesn't know the history of the personal attacks, nor the true "degree mill" debates intimately.

I agree with Rich, he never starts the flame wars, he just finishes (sp?) them.

He just leaves, never to return, then returns in a few weeks.

    Sorry Rich, I couldn't resist! :D

But when he returns, it is with great wisedom.

No harm, no foul. But my last departure was (a) unannounced and (b) a few months, not weeks. And it felt good. Followed, of course, by a one-day flood of about 120 messages. Just to let you know I was back.:D
