As long as there are customers, there will always be diploma mills. And as long as employers and others don't make these distinctions, there will always be customers.

Back on July 15 2015, our Presiding Guru of DL, Dr. John Bear, mentioned Coronado Pacific.

    http://www.degreeinfo.com/general-distance-learning-discussions/50302-fake-diplomas-pakistan-2.html

John opined that Coronado Pacific might basically be just a name-change for California Paramount U. - also known as Paramount California U. in some quarters. This school had been linked to Axact (Pakistani fraud ring) in the media and its site had suddenly been pulled from the Web. Paramount California degrees were reported to have cost up to $200,000 when "brokered" through Axact offices. Both these schools claimed addresses in San Diego.

Thank goodness Google didn't have a data crash like DI. I couldn't find any of this with the DI search gadget!

    Decent name, at least.

It's no University of South Chicago but it isn't bad.

No - not bad at all. But if I were going to name a University after a Conquistador, I'd go full-bore. I'd use Coronado's full name, Universidad Francisco Vázquez de Coronado y Luján, or maybe choose one of his expedition-leaders. I can see it now:

Universidad García López de Cárdenas - coming to a casilla postal (post-office box) near you. He discovered the Grand Canyon - but had nothing, as far as I know, to do with Grand Canyon U.

When I hear 'Coronado' in the San Diego context, I think of the upscale San Diego suburb right across from downtown San Diego. A very desirable place to live. Several military installations (North Island Naval Air Station, the Naval Amphibious Base Coronado etc.) but no universities, as far as I know.

I'm of the same opinion, actually. Coronado Pacific and Paramount California had a lot in common. They also had a lot in common with two (or one, it's a matter of definition) schools in the UK, which in turn easily can be mistaken for Axact clones.

Don't know why I wrote that: I should have written "which in turn are very similar to some Axact clones" or something.

Yes - I found this page of Google ads for PCU Australia: https://plus.google.com/+PcuEduAustralia - but no website (yet). Nice building ... Hey, it looks JUST like the Sydney Opera House!

Well you should accord them more respect you know. After all, they are using the Sydney Opera House as a campus!

I like him 'way better than the one he replaced - but not quite as much as I liked his father. That could change, over time. We'll see.
