This just gets wackier and wackier. Kind of like an episode of Rush talk radio.

Are you saying all African-Americans who cast a vote did so for Obama? I think even you will agree they voted for candidates on both sides of the aisle. Did many more than usual African-American citizens make an effort to get to the voting booth this election? Certainly. Did some of these voters choose Obama only due to skin colour? Maybe. But the same arguments can be made for caucasian voters and McCain. It is only my opinion when I say the voters decided it was time for change just as these same voters decided it was time for a republican president after a scandal-ridden democratic administration.

Did you sample any of your non-white friends and conduct the same statistical analysis? No? Why not?

When I lived in the US I listened to Rush Limbaugh for its entertainment value. Ocassionally, he made a valid point but largely it was vitriol. The same could be said for some on the other end of the political spectrum. Yep, I agree with you Abner, this thread just gets wackier and wackier.

Regardless of whether it is Obama or McCain as US President that person has an uphill struggle ahead during these challenging times. I'd like to hear the opinions had the campaign been Obama (D) versus Powell (R); what would some of the posters be saying now? The McCain of 2000 might have won against the Obama of 2008 but the McCain of 2008 was a hollow shell of his former self on the campaign trail.

This thread has potential. It has the potential to become a reasonable dialog and it has the potential to degenerate into nastiness. Let it be the former, not the latter.

Whomever is running country, in this case President Obama, I wish them luck. The election is over. There has been a peaceful transferrence of power. God speed to our leaders. We have lots of work to do.

96% of African-Americans that voted, voted for Barack Obama. Is this a consistent statistic with the point that you are making? It appears that race was a pretty big factor!

African-Americans loved Clinton and the best he ever got was right around 90%...Kerry got 89%. The overwhelming percentage of the African-American vote is what won this election...period...

    Race was a factor...

It's difficult to not believe race was, and is, an issue when we have comments like the following as part of the address to the masses:

    Reverand Lowery
    From Reverand Lowery

    Fox News

""We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right..." Perhaps an attempt at levity? If so, poorly contrived.

The only way for the country to move forward is if we move forward. For example, can we finally get rid of race based quotas and affirmative action?

I will accept your statistics as valid. All these statistics show is race was a factor for between 6% and 7% of the African-American electorate based on the percentages garnered for Obama versus the percentages garnered for either Clinton or Kerry. For the sake of argument let's say approximately 10% of African-Americans voted based on race of the candidate. What percentage voted for McCain based soley on his race?

President George W. Bush (41) exhibited the highest character in the manner in which he handled the transition process and the inaugration. I almost think he is relieved, based on his expression today, to be free of the stress of being president.

Obviously I can not give you a firm number...but being that the rest of America, non-African-Americans, were split 50-50 between Obama and McCain, I would say that greater than 10% of African-Americans voted for Obama based upon his race.

On the other hand, I doubt that there is a significant percentage of people that voted for McCain that would have voted for a democrat candidate but chose to vote for a republican because Obama was half-black...

Personally, I could give a rip less if a woman has an abortion. Personally, I could give a rip less if a guy wants to bend over and let some other guy rip him a new anus. Even though I would neither have an abortion nor engage in homosexual activity myself, I simply do not care if others do. And I personally do not understand why anyone else would care either. What makes you so superior that you think you should have some natural right to invade other people's bedrooms and tell them what they can or cannot do?

McCain was judged by the fact that he is totally reactionary, conservative, and decaying and generally out of step with the country. Get over yourself!

Dude, I'v4e put up with eight years of being told that disagreement with the president is treason. Now, all of the sudden, you conservatives seem to think that disagreement with the president should not be treason. YOU, sir, are the hypocrite!

On the other hand, there are not enough African-Americans to single-handedly elect one of their own for president. At least some white folks must have voted for Obama. I am a white dude and I voted for Obama. Does the fact that I am a white dude that voted for a black guy make me a racist that hates all European Americans? Hell, no! I just think that McCain is way too reactionary, conservative, and decaying and, besides, he's so damn old that he would never have been able to live long enough after his term (had he been elected) to understand how thoroughly he screwed up the country had he done so. Obama, on the other hand, is 47 years old. Assuming that he fulfills the term (or terms) to which he is/will be elected, he will leave office at the age of either 51 or 55 years, which means that, if he does totally screw up the country while in office, he will have plenty of time left after he leaves office to think about what he did. :)

Ted, you are the man! You have a knack for cutting through the bull*&^%.

Professor Adams, OSC late 09. Wow as a retired army officer 2yrs active/enlisted, HHD 68th Medical Group APO, Long Binh Vietnam and 20 years army reserve. In my opinion, after reading your post, I hope you reconsider the idea of going to OSC. Your intolerance and rigidity is going to be difficult to overcome
