I'd say it might be easier when things become clearer - i.e. when the alumni group takes over the site, as stated by the BPPE message on CPU website right now. The group probably wants to serve as guardian of the records.

Please note: I'm not being disrespectful here to anyone who studied at CPU - I wouldn't do that as (1) I liked CPU and (2) it had a nearly 40-year run.

I was under the impression that when state-approved schools close down operations, the organization in which approved the schools would become the guardian of records. I went to Polytechnic Institute in Houston and it was an unaccredited school that was approved by the (TWC) Texas Workforce Commission, which on most accounts is similar to the BPPE. The only difference is that I was able to get financial aid. Well, when the school closed the TWC was supposed to maintain those records. Unfortunately, the president of that school never turned over those records, and there are no proof of me ever attending. Hard lesson..

Makes total since. I guess time will tell. It appears that all they would need to do is pay the 5K fine and get accreditation by 2017, but as well all know " Accreditation" is a numbers game and you need big money to get it going. At least they did not receive an abatement based on fraudulent activity or any other unethical actions like a lot of schools. It was for a simple failure to submit a 2014 report. We shall see how this turns out.

Charles, I think it's not an obligation for them to turn over records to the BPPE. if a administrator/former Alumni would take on the job as being the records guardian, this would help continue to verify Alumni credentials. I did email them and they seem to optimistic that things will get back in order and CPU will not shut down.

Yes. These aren't the droids you're looking for.

Not bad; I wish Polytechnic would have done that. Imagine going to school and not getting credit for it.

I meant to say - there "is" no proof of me ever attending. I know better than to make too many grammatical errors on here. Lol

Then I'm sure you can understand why the BPPE gets on the case, when schools registered with them fail to file accurate and timely reports. They don't want to risk this (not getting credit etc.) happening in California.

They have a good alternative - don't break the rules in the first place. File reports on time, etc. Never heard of these problems in the founder's many years heading CPU.

    This would be true.

I think being defunct would have been a better option than going the Pebble Hills University route - California Pacific University. Again, a 40 year run of being a respected state-approved school that met it's demise through lack of reporting...nothing to be ashamed of. But recognition from unknown accreditors can ruin the great image that CPU once had.

You have a point. I hope CPU will either get legit accreditation or just call it quits and go out with pride and dignity. As you said, CPU is a reputable University and never had any negative feedback. It would be bad to try and get unrecognized accreditation. They are well known and I've seen linkedin profiles of professionals who've earned degrees through them and went on to become sussessful and high up in their field on work. Thiere were 49 graduates between 2015 and 2016 but I guess it was not enough to cover the bills (i.e Abatement) and other overhead expenses.

Good grief...how in the hell do I start a new discussion on degreeinfo? I noticed that California Paramount University was back up and running and would like to hear everyone else's thoughts on it. They emerged from the ashes out of nowhere!

You mean Paramount California University? They were part of the "Axact" scam. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/18/world/asia/fake-diplomas-real-cash-pakistani-company-axact-reaps-millions-columbiana-barkley.html?_r=0

Not sure how they are able to come back from that. I did hear that they were a Legit school but some scammers in from Pakistan took over their site and scammed thousands of consumers.

Well Larry, if you spend a little time reading some of the other threads on the board you'll find all sorts of information. We've been talking about the Axact scandal for a long time.

So far as CPU, unless they can at least become approved by the BPPE, calling it quits would be their best route. All it takes is for a few minor mistakes to turn a respected university into a laughing stock, and I'd hate to see that with a plethora of unknown accrediting bodies. .

Imagine that. Domain re-registered on 4 October, with pretty much the same content as before, including pictures of Yanni Zack, Robert Burke and David Rivkin. The millish chat box is an addition though, and there seems to be some confusion as to who is actually president of the school.

Charles, you go to the forum-section you want - e.g. this one , "accredited /unaccredited." On the left, at the top of the thread listing is a button: "Start new Thread." Click on it.

I must be half-asleep or something. I couldn't find any confusion. The site has a page called "Office of the President," with a bio. and pic of Dr. David Rivkin.
