Druggies also rationalize that it's okay to steal from your family, friends, and complete strangers to finance your habit, that it's okay to shoot-up in your neck because you've collapsed all the veins in your arms, and that it's okay to spend your days either high, sick because you're not high, or in jail.

Guess who's paying for that kind of lifestyle, since drug addiction is a "disability" according to Social Security?

    HINT: Look in the mirror.

    Yeah, great comparison.

Sure...but the majority I've seen and known (back in my eary twenties) mostly just smoke pot, hold jobs or go to college and aside from drinking really don't do much else. In fact the overwhelming majority of people who use illegal drugs are really just using pot, which doesn't require needles, stealing money, etc. It's pretty cheap and easy to find but also probably accounts for the great majority of drug arrests. Either way this is pretty far off topic so I'm done here...I think I've made my point.

    Hugs...

Just to nitpick, most recreational marijuana smokers I've known aren't "druggies" any more than most people who kick back a beer now and then are alcoholics.

I haven't really followed this thread and so I don't know the implications of agreeing or disagreeing with any specific position. In any case, I agree with Steve. So many people smoke pot now that it's becoming decriminalized all across the country. People smoke in public and Police ignore it. It's just a finable offense in many places and maybe not even worth doing the paperwork. Mostly these people go about their business and don't bother anyone. But in my experience other drugs are different. Crack, coke, heroin, crystal meth, those addicts will lie/steal from anyone to support their habit.

I had a friend who got caught with weed. The cop wrote her a ticket. Yes, like she was double parked, or something. This is a stupid and futile thing to keep illegal, and that's been obvious since a commission appointed by the Nixon administration recommended decriminalization.

You need to get out of the house more often.....opiate addiction is literally an epidemic around here, thanks to the easy availability and low price. Kids get hooked on prescription drugs like Oxycodone or Oxycontin (just a concentrated amount of Oxycodone with a time-release coating), which goes for $1 per milligram on the street.

It doesn't take long to build up a tolerance to the point that the junkie needs 100 milligrams to even stave off withdrawal symptons, and they figure out really quick that a $5-10 bag of heroin has the same effect as 100mg of Oxycodone, so they start snorting heroin. Pretty soon they build a tolerance to that, and then they start shooting heroin, which is the point of no return. There is a junkie who lived (his parents finally wised up and threw him out) in my patrol area who last I checked, was into his parents for $50,000 for stolen money, forged checks, stolen property, and getting credit cards in their names and running up the cash advances to the maximum.

Marijuana is a non-factor.....they could legalize it tomorrow, and I couldn't care less. I wouldn't use it myself, simply because I don't like smoke, and the one time I did try it as a teenager, I laughed like a moron for 10 minutes, demolished a bag of Doritos, then fell asleep for 2 hours. All set with that, and I'd much rather deal with a stoner who just blazed a bowl of hydro-weed than someone who just polished off a 12-pack of Natural Ice.

    Exactly my point.

I wouldn't go that far....if I'm in uniform and you walk past me smoking a joint, we're going to have a conversation and you're getting a $100 civil citation, because that's just disrespectful, as it's still a violation of the law. If someone got to a red light, looked at my cruiser, then went through anyway, they would also get a $100 civil infraction citation, even though I'm not big on traffic enforcement, because I don't like being disrespected.
