This goes to the ever true fact that most are not black and white, but somewhere in between. I loved you post, I think it hits the issue exactly on point.

I have this conversation with many who consider themselves "liberal conservatives" or "conservative liberals". What is the difference? Usually the side is drawn, when a person feels very strongly on one issue, so picks a side, but then concedes to the other, based on less passionate issues.

I know some who belive in gun control, but very much the other side in all other issues, but consider themselves a part of the conservative team because of the one issue.

Also, I know many people who believe in the freedom of choice, so consider themselves a liberal, though all other views are conservative.

Anyway, my two cents, interesting conversation.

The far right wants to have bazookas and tanks. The far left wants a complete ban on private firearms ownership. Both sides are lunatics. Fortunately, most people fall somewhere between the two.

Everything I've seen tells me that the NRA would be satisfied with the procedure I outlined, provided that was the end of it.

    That's MA state law.

There is no such thing as a Federal gun permit, but there are Federal laws that exempt Federal law enforcement officers from state gun laws.

Do you agree with the NRA literature that called federal law enforcement officials "jack-booted thugs?"

Bush 41 resigned his membership because of it. Bush 43 did not.

    In some instances, yes.

I've worked with Federal agents several times. Overall, I'm not impressed.

    What are "jack booted thungs"?

It's a reference to the Nazis, who wore "jack boots", which are just tall boots where the pants are tucked-in. Look at any motorcycle or mounted police officer, and you'll see them.

I'm sure you've heard of David Koresh and the standoff at Waco?

The ATF got search & arrest warrants for Koresh and his compound. They went to the county sheriff and outlined their grand scheme of storming the compound. The sheriff's reply was that he could get David Koresh in his office with a single phone call. The ATF would have none of that. We all know what happened next.

The ATF also got arrest & search warrants for a man named Randy Weaver in Idaho. An undercover operative for the ATF brow-beat Weaver into selling the operative an illegal sawed-off shotgun. The ATF went to the county sheriff to outline their grand plans on storming Weaver's house. The sheriff told the ATF that he could get Weaver into his office with a phone call. The ATF Agents refused. Are we noticing a pattern here?

End result.....a US Marshal (William Degan) killed in the line of duty, a 14-year old boy (Sammy Weaver) dead as the result of a needless misunderstanding, and a woman (Vicki Weaver) murdered by an FBI sniper (Lon Horiuchi) while she cradled her 10-month old baby.

The county District Attorney indicted Horiuchi on a manslaughter charge, but that was thrown out by a dubious Federal court ruling that stated that Federal agents are not subject to state law. Think about that.

    Very comforting.

I'm still a little confused on the logic.

It's wrong to abort a baby.

It's fine to drop a bomb on his/her head.

With George Bush's war, and Kerry's seeming willingness to continue it, couldn't an argument be made that they are both (as you call them) "baby killers"? Which, if the welfare of children (and I'm refering to all children) is at the heart of this presidential debate, neither candidate would seem qualified.

For me, I see these issues as too complex for simple name calling.
    But I am a philosophy major. :D

    Re: Kerry Nader Bush.

    JOKE :)

A man is caught in traffic when suddenly someone taps on the window.
He lowers the window and asks what he wanted.

The man says, President Bush was kidnapped and the ransom is $5 Million dollars, and that if the ransom is not paid, the kidnappers have threatened to douse him with gasoline and set him on fire!

"We are doing a collection, do you wish to participate?"

The man asks "on the average what are people giving?"

The man says "5 to 10 liters!
