    Are congratulations in order?

I enjoy reading and posting on DI, but sometimes like to take a peak at DD just to see if there is anything good on the topic of DL. Usually the posts are few and, more often than not, have little to do with DL. However, I thought this post was interesting.

I have nothing against the regulars on DD. In fact, I wish most of the former DI regulars on DD would just put their petty differences aside and rejoin DI.

Of the ones patting themselves on the back in this thread, I guess the only thing they have left to do is to pour the brandy and pass the cigars.

I read that post earlier today too. They felt the need to no longer frequent this forum and more power to 'em.

That being said, the fact that the comment was made that the majority of members of this board are now considered to be of lower intellect is a little disheartening.

I don't even look there. They are a bunch of defectors that overpowered the board with BS. ;)

The only reason even go look there is to see if there is anything good, DL related, that this board missed. What I usually find is a lot of BS. Most of the posts are non-DL.

I wouldn't get too disheartened. That is one person's biased opinion. The fact that a lot of people frequent this board, ask a lot of questions, and get a lot of answers is a testament of the worth of the people on this board.

Much (all) of the thread appears to have no added value except to indicate that some people lack self-confidence.

Let's see, Steve Levicoff is mentioned - completed an academically worthless PhD and drives a truck - and his past behavior harrrasing/stalking disabled persons will forever keep him out of academia - where he desperately wants to go.

Rich Douglas, completed an fairly lackluster "self-designed" PhD (after John Bear picked him up by the collar and hand-carrried him accross the threshold), from a school under academic probation with repeated integrity issues (anyone remember his "28 years of education background" claim? An "self-designed" education PhD who DID NOT KNOW what an EdS was?

    John Bear is certainly missed.

The overall level of civility here is pretty good - far better than it was before RD and SL left. I especially think the persons who take the time and trouble to respond to inquires re: HS and AA degrees are unsung heros - it would be very easy to ignore the posters.

And I have noticed (because good info can come from anywhere) that often topics posted here show up on DD a day or so later. ;)

I post on both forums as well as DegreeBoard. I think that there is something to be said for the value of each site, and the posters that frequent them.

DI is the place to be if your looking for "in the trenches" guidance finding a DL program that will suit your current and future needs. People new to DL should absolutely look here first.

DD is the place to be if you are concerned about the legitimacy of an unaccredited program. The DD posters are very concerned about degree-mills and fraud in higher education and will never steer a person wrong on these topics. Legit, unaccredited schools get a fair shake at DD, despite what is written elsewhere.

Those are my thoughts, take them or leave them.;)

The reason that Degreeinfo has that 'nuts and bolts' feeling is because it gets lots of new posters with technical questions about study guides for particular tests, about which MBA program is better than that, about where to find a good CJ program or whatever.

I think that Degreeinfo has some substantial advantages over the other boards in that regard. It gets glowing references in 'Bear's Guide' and there are links to it on other DL sites. And the fact that it's already been in existence for years and has hundreds of thousands of posts means that it comes up a lot in web-searches.

The other boards just don't get the constant flow of newbie questions, so they are more apt to resemble groups of friends discussing whatever's of interest.

But I have to say that the ethical issues and personal animosities that are such a prominent feature of the DL world are really hard to take. It just ruins what could and should be such a wonderful thing.

I finally checked the DI forum for the thread about this thread. One thing certain DI members must remember what is petty to you might not be to others. For what it's worth I think both Dave and Bill Dayson(on the DI board make some excellent points).

Dave's point about the legitmate topic of DL is very much a reality. It was one of my early points before I decided to stop being Swiss(http://www.degreediscussion.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=496).

I agree to a point we definately do not have the same debates on DD we had on DI. There is much less traffic(on both boards since the scandal). Although I think there has been many more intellectual topics dicussed on DD in the short time DD has been in existance(please note : I make no mention that one board is any more superior intellectually than the other). On the otherhand DI has more recognition, because it's been around for so long. To be honest I don't know if the reasons the two boards exist can ever be resolved looking at the current issues(e.g. ownership) It has caused me some dissonance.

I have posted a copy on both boards for fairness purposes. This does not mean I have changed my mind(at least not yet). Also it's hard to have dialogue, when only posting on one board about the other .

Well Randell, since there's only two of us left, do you have any suggestions on how we can increase our ranks to be able to overpower this board with BS again?

Discussing other sites is perfectly fine, but let's please not take to bashing former/current DI members.

    Make that three of us.

Yes, I noticed the winking smilie. Now that there's three of us though, perhaps we can flood at least a thread or two with BS? For example, this thread seems pretty flooded. ;)

Ironically, not necessarily by the three in question. I'm sure we could change that quick, however. ;)

I poke my head in over there once every few months and the other day I got to watch a virtual meltdown.

"You, sir, have offended me once again! I'm leaving".
"Oh, please do come back. Sniff".
    "Well, I'm leaving too! Snort".
"Please! Can't we all just get along? Scratch".

It went on and on and the usual suspects all made their way back to posting status after being beseeched to return. Pure silliness.

I do like the tener(sp) of this board since that defection en-masse.
