    Who necromanced this eight-year-old thread?

Wow. This old thread was jam-packed with heavy hitters. Sadly, they include at least two people who never had the pleasure of reading a Maniac Craniac post before passing away. I wonder what peoples' thoughts will be in eight years when today's threads are considered classic?

Well MC, if either of us is still around I promise that I'll raise some of your threads from the grave and we'll see how people react.:dunno:

When you're loading boxes onto a UPS truck they're not going to be too particular as to where you earned your MBA.

As I understand it, it's not a hard job to get but it's a hard job to keep. Long hours of physical labor with a small margin of error.

    Kizmet: "...hard job to keep..."

John: When my son-in-law was a UPS driver, he was once called on the carpet because, when he was secretly videotaped through a telephoto lens, his stride was "only" 33 inches, and the standard for his job was 36 inches. (He is now driving his own truck, specializing in something that certain shippers won't entrust to UPS or FedEx: organs and eyeballs for transplant.)

When I worked for them loading & unloading trucks, I put in for a permanent job opening. One day I was unloading a truck with another guy, and I noticed there was a guy in a shirt & tie with a clipboard and stopwatch, standing on the loading ramp and staring at me. I didn't say anything, as it was obvious he was management, but after he left I asked my partner what was up. He told me that they were timing me to see if my production was good enough to be hired as a regular employee.

    I guess it wasn't, because I didn't get the job. :eek13:

I will say that management drinks the UPS Kool-Aid, big time. It's a like a cult, the loyalty and enthusiasm they display.
