Re: Re: 2008 Hopeless I say amen Brother Carl! Anybody will be an improvement in comparison to the idiot now in office. Abner
Re: Re: Re: Re: 2008 Hopeless And how do we arrange that? The good people of Massachusetts seem to keep sending him back. Certainly you're not suggesting making him President Kennedy! Are you?
I think that I might go for the Libertarian guy in preference to Larouche. And that's from someone who has voted for three Democrats and three Socialists.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: 2008 Hopeless Just like the good people of America put our President in office! President Kennedy? Heaven forbid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only Kennedy worth being in the White House never made it--Bobby!
If my math is accurate that's six Presidential elections beginning in 1984. Since then I voted for one Democrat, one Independent, one Socialist, two Libertarians, and one Republican.

A cup of wisdom. By the way, aren't you the person who bragged on Reagan afte he died saying you were wrong and realized year's later what a good president he was?
Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts will be a major player in 2008, either as the Presidential or Vice-Presidential nominee for the Republican Party. For those who don't know, he's straight out of Central Casting for the role of "smooth politician". He looks fantastic, has a beautiful wife, beautiful family, and has impeccable credentials (B.A. from Brigham Young, M.B.A. & J.D. from Harvard). Romney Bio He's Mormon, which now doesn't nearly carry the same stigma that doomed his father (Michigan Gov. George Romney) when he ran for President. Mitt is also articulate, and unflappable while facing the media. Keep an eye on him, trust me.
At this juncture I would say Romney will be the nominee. I would normally go with Rice, especially if Hillary gets the Democratic nod (which I don't think she will) but I don't think Rice will run. It's Romney in '08.
Did anyone watch the news shows this Sunday? Both Sens John McCain (R) and Joe Biden (D) stated that they were sort of, kind of, feeling out, maybe, perhaps, keeping options open, not ruling anything out, seeing if running would be a viable option. (I lov the lingo) I'd be happy with either one of them.
Right. But McCain won't be nominated because he is seen as a traitor both for his run last time and for brokering the nomination filibuster peace treaty. In short, for being a moderate Republican Senator with a sense of duty to the Upper House. I predict that there will be two, and ONLY two, serious GOP contenders; Bill Frist and Jeb Bush. Jeb will emulate that Popes and require himself to be drafted. Frist will continue to prostitute himself to whichever part of the GOP constituency he thinks he needs at the moment. Frist's naked ambitions and utter lack of charactor will inure to Jeb's benefit; the GOP Right will "pursuade" Jeb to run exactly because he IS acceptable to the Unholy Alliance of Conservative Christians and the Biggest of Big Business. Jeb will also be less repellent to the rest of us than Frist would be. Tambien, Frist is a Senator whereas Jeb is a Governor. We've tended to elect Governors not Senators for what I consider to be good reasons. Let's see...Carter, Reagan, not GHWB, Clinton, and GWB. Four of the last five Presidents were Governors.
Oh, and one other thing... There is no way on God's Green Earth that the Democrats will nominate Hillary. We don't have a collective death wish, Kerry notwithstanding. Unfortunately, I don't see ANYONE ELSE in the offing. Sooo...Jeb Bush will be the next President, or so it looks to me at this point. Very, very depressing.
I think the next couple of years are going to be the true tell tale signs for Romney. He has had some problems (as I'm sure you are aware of,Bruce ) in Massachusetts(then again who doesn't in Masasachusetts politics). His next couple of years may make him or break him. He may suffer greatly in Massachsetts if he pulls to far to the right. On the other hand alot of good old boys downs south may have a problem with a northern republican, who doesn't share their faith(think neo-cons).
