    10 Most Worhtless College Majors

When I first opened the link, guess what the first ad was for? Yep, UofP. Too funny.

I knew someone who managed to roll two of the top 10 into one magnificent degree. She's smart alright, but after spending 75K on her education finding it hard to make student loan payments while working an entry level job at Lowes.

Of course this list does not apply to anyone here, we all go to school for the "intellectual pursuits". :tired:

The only (small) arguement I'd make is that Philosophy is generally considered to be one of the preferred undergrad majors for entrance to Law School. Of course, then you'd be a lawyer and that's a whole other bucket of potential negativity.

    :indifferent:

    Observations:

    1) Somehow, neither of my majors (Psych/Soc) ended up on the list.

    2) Wow, I've never seen a Mormon with anything but a plain black tie: http://lh3.ggpht.com/_MsZb8mYFoCs/TKuJUGV_43I/AAAAAAAAL0k/Ish98W7vTH8/s800/religion.jpg

    3) I know this article is a joke, but allow me to disagree with it. Many of those majors are only what people do for undergrad if they are planning on moving on to a graduate degree in something more useful. Or, if, like me, they just need to get a degree, not mattering in what, and want to study something that they will like along the way.

I was expecting to see culinary arts, but I guess they left out the trade majors.

I am very surprised that Liberal Arts and Humanities did not make the list. Those always seemed like the worst majors IMO unless you want to teach.

Philosophy is a great career. Even better than mathematics. Mathematics is a great career because the only tools you need are a pencil, a stack of paper, and a wastebasket. Same deal for philosophy, but without the wastebasket.

I had to laugh at the author's pessimistic and rude employment predictions for the various degrees.

My firend has a BA in Philosophy - his line was - I can't get a job with it, but at least I can explain "Why".

Honestly this is the main reason why I didn't go to California to study philosophy at BIOLA ... lack of jobs. And given the high costs to pay for school and live there, I couldn't justify it. Instead I resolved to read extensively in my spare time and learn as much as possible on my own.

A friend of mine majored in philosophy and went on to create a set of characters and a storyline that a studio bought and produced two summer blockbuster movies. No major is worthless.

Only the people that hold them are.

My friend from high school, who I talked to the other day on facebook for the first time in many years holds an BS in Communications. He has worked his way up to VP of Operations for a Fortune 500 company. It’s not the degree, it’s the person. I took a look at the pics of his home in River Oaks, it made me sad :(

As most of us know, what you major in rarely coincides with the work we do. My boss at Google was a retired brain surgeon and was now working in IT. ;)
