If they offered a baccalaureate degree it could be an S.B. instead of a B.S.

How about Bucks County (PA) Community College, known in the area as Buck U.

Then there's Tuk U, which exists only on t-shirts.

Every student who hailed from The Northwest Territories had a t-shirt from Tuktoyaktuk University.

Would anyone really want a degree from the DETC accredited University of Action Learning?

Wasn't something respectable like the Colorado Institute of Advanced Management available?

A name can bring instant unearned respect. Every degree mill knows this.

Guess what? The school of your dreams exists! The world-famous (oh, OK, but it is accredited) Jihoceska Univerzita (University of Southern Bohemia) is alive and well and living in Ceske Budejovice. CB is the city formerly known as Budweis, so yes, Virginia, there is a Budweiser University.

I remember reading somewhere that the original Budweiser Brewery still exists in Budweis/Ceske Budejovice. After the fall of communism and the Czech Republic once again becoming America's friend, the Budweiser Brewery in Budweis tried to export Budweiser beer to America, only to find that in the USA the name 'Budweiser' is a protected trademark of Anheiser Busch Brewing Co.

I think that there are more than one Bayer Aspirin as well.

    Not quite.

"Eberhard Anheuser and Adolphus Busch were running a brewery in St. Louis. [...] In 1876, Adolphus and his friend Carl Conrad, developed a lager beer they named 'Budweiser.' [...] This sets off ongoing litigation with all the other U.S. brewers who were making budweiser beer. Oh, yes: there were a number of American 'budweiser' beers. [...] But A-B took this placename as their own, and finally hammered the last American one out of existence in the 1970s, DuBois Budweiser, from DuBois, PA. I've seen DuBois Budweiser cans in can collections in Pittsburgh bars."

"The [Czech] company named Budejovicky Budvar was founded in the town of Ceske Budejovice in 1895. The beer, however has been brewed in Budejovice ever since the 14th century."

"They [...] put the name 'Budweiser' on the label, as does another brewery in Budweis, the Samson brewery. When Samson sent beer to the U.S., A-B got upset. Legal wrangling eventually resulted in an agreement signed in 1911 between the two companies that essentially split the world's markets between them. [...] There was a subsequent agreement between A-B and Budvar signed in 1933 [...]."

"Anheuser-Busch filed a complaint with the International Trade Commission charging the Czech Brewer with breaking the agreement from 1939 that forbids the Czech Budweiser from the US Market. [...] Czech brewer, in its defense, denied the accusations claiming to have always honored the 1939 Agreements. Only Budweiser Budvar beer exported to the United States is in the shipments for the Diplomatic Corps and Embassies (only exception from the treaty) [...]."

"[...] since neither one managed to win the exclusive right to the use of name in general, respective law suits were filed in respective countries, [...]. The rulings differ [...] – thus the dispute did not win them exclusive rights, but led to the division of market. [...] Anheuser-Busch and Budejovicky Budvar have been battling in England since the 1970s. Recently, the Court of Appeal in London ruled that American brewery Anheuser-Busch and Czech brewery Budejovicky Budvar may both use the Bud and Budweiser name in England"

When I was Coordinator of Educational Technology at College of the Desert (Palm Desert, CA), I recall complaints from the international education department that the name of the college was a huge deterrent to recruiting. I suggested that they change the name to something even more indicative of the area, like Golf and Tennis Resorts College. :p

    From worse to bad

    Here's a new candidate.

The University of Action Learning has changed its name to Revans University, presumably to honor Reggie Revans, the father of action learning.

I passed by Sitting Bull College about a week and a half ago. It is located on the Standing Rock Sioux reservation in south central North Dakota. I have been familiar with this school for some time, but was shocked to finally see its facilities. It is housed in some pretty rough looking buildings! By the way, it is situated about 1/4 mile from the original burial site of Sitting Bull.

No one has yet mentioned one of my personal "favorite" school names: the Maharishi University of Management (mum.edu).
