No, I think the Thatcher / Reagan experience was the other way around.

Did you actually visit the list of polls someone posted here, I did, most were in favour of Kerry.

As for who will win, in the UK and USA, Bush and Blair might, if they cheat like Bush did first time around.

Please tell me exactly how Bush cheated.

What specific, direct actions did he take?

  3. My opinion on this debate...

OK. Most of you who have read my posts know that I AM partisan. Very much for Kerry.

But, damn it, Bush won this debate. I agree with most, if not all, of the previous posts. Bush looked more intelligent and connected tonight than he has in any of the previous debates, and possibly since he took the office in 2000. Kerry came across as one bean counting, overly analytical, stiff and unsmiling human "Herman Munster" of a politician.

I'm still voting for him though, because I think he is more on the right track than Bush.

I was cringing everytime the topic turned to health care, just HOPING he wouldn't bring up Chris Reeve's death in the context of Bush policies.... Thank God he was smart enough to avoid that pitfall, but the reference to Cheney's daughter AGAIN was simply bad taste at its worst.

I thought Bush's answer to the question about the importance of the "strong women around him" was excellent, and honest, and absolutely right on target. So was Kerry's, especially the part about how his wife and especially his daughters wouldn't let him get away with taking himself too seriously. Any of us dads who have daughters know just what that is all about!!

Well, good for us you are not an American. In fact, since you are not an American, what you do or do not think about Kerry or Bush is irrelevant.

No, you have it mistaken. This is a multi-level puppet scheme. Blair is at the bottom with his strings being pulled by Bush. Unfortunatley Bush has two puppeteers above him named Karl Rove and Dick Cheney similtaneiously pulling his strings. This is probably the reason he is all over the board. :eek:P

No, we live in the good ole USA where we've been privileged to see our Great President, George W. Bush in action -- up close and personal.

When are you signing up for the front line?

Hmmmm. Actually you are wrong, the perseption of the president in the world arena makes a big difference. Your Brain-Dead President Bush has took worth of the US dollar and flushed it down the toilet.

Kerry would make a strong dollar. Guess you will never learn until you are sent to the front line.

Easy to support a madman from a comfy LazyBoy isn't it?

In other news, another 6 US Soldiers have been killed to protect oil.

    Shame.

No, this is where you are wrong. We're doing fine on our own, thank you...and don't really care what the Chirac/Hussein Group, or the rest of Europe thinks.

Crack on. It's your dollar that is being destroyed.

  12. I wasn't going to jump in on these posts, because I disagree with both sides...

    BUT

This attitude as expressed above by BLD is absolutely wrong. Even Bush himself and his cronies aren't that stupid!

We need strong alliances, we need to care what the rest of the world thinks. This ethnocentric attitude we have that America decides what is right for everyone, and screw you (or bomb you) if you disagree is a huge part of what is wrong with the Bush administration's foreign policy.

But, as I said, even the Bush administration wouldn't go as far, or take such an idiotic stance, as BLD just did. Colin Powell, and Condy Rice, for example, understand the value of foreign policy, good relations with our allies, and the need for consensus building when dealing with terrorism and war.

    Carl,
That isn't even remotely close to what I said. I am speaking of the election in particular, and the economy in general. I don't care what anyone in Europe thinks about our election, or George Bush. Why should we rely on the opinions of those who have failed to run their own countries correctly? What has France, Germany, et. al., done that we seek to emulate? What is there about their economies that we should be jealous of? That's my point.

  14. Fair enough - I stand corrected. I guess I was just picking up a certain hostility towards Europeans that I think is unhealthy. In my opinion, it would be good if we cared a little more about what those countries thought of us and our president. Those who are not willing to listen to other opinions, even though they may ultimately still disagree, are at risk of tunnel vision and resulting poor judgments...

    Make sense?

Carl, I am glad for your input. I agree that the image of the United States needs improving. Imposing ideas with the gun is only a short-term solution.

Every time I see the news coverage from Iraq, I can't help but remember the old saying. "He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword".

Saddam Hussien thought the same way, as some Americans.
"I don´t care what other people think"

    Look where that landed him?

If the amount of money being spent on the war is invested in creating an alternative engine that is not reliant on fossil fuels, the Middle east would go back to a Nomadic existence, fighting each other with antique rifles from camels.

Dependence on the Middle East must stop. Period

    Gallup says Kerry won

The Gallup people say Kerry won handily, 52% to 39%.

What is being ignored in the recent debates about ethnocentricity, Germany, France, and the rest of the world is that, even under President George W. Bush (hated by many), America continues to be the country peoples from all over the world flock to for freedom, liberty, and opportunity!
