A lot of the hate comes from sports rivalries.

And for the record, as a native Northern Virginian, I love West Virginia. Wild and wonderful!

FWIW, I promise you that every sports fan in the D.C. area hates Philly sports fans.

Yeah, you are right. I told Astros fans, for which I am one, now you know what it is like to be hated, booed, and hissed at. Lol I have been a Cowboy fan for almost 50 years. My dad has been a fan since 1960.

That was supposedly the big rivalry when I was a kid, I expect played up to sell tickets and ad revenue. But Philly sports fans? That's real.

LOL, I went to a Caps game once when they weren't attracting a lot of fan support at home, and since you all are only three hours away, the stands were a sea of orange and black.

Once I was in Detroit on a project and on a weekend drove to Ohio for a football game.
That Weekend Ohio hated Michigan the most.
Since I had rental car with Michigan license plate, while driving I was shown a finger almost around every stop light, and turn.
Then after the game my car had so mach graffiti on it, that I had to file an insurance claim and file an official complaint. The rental was replaced without cost to me.
I think a week later they already hated another state.

The hate towards the Cowboys comes from CBS Sports touting them as "America's Team." Whether or not they used that actual term, it's what they did. When I think of Musberger, George, and The Greek, I think of the Cowboys and no one else. Yet it was the Steelers who were dominant during that period. (But, at that time, CBS had the NFC and ran Cowboys games as the nationally televised game a lot. The Steelers were in the AFC and, thus, were on NBC, which didn't do that.) But....

The Cowboys came about winning honestly. They had a great organization and one of the best coaches in history. Their owners didn't scrimp, either.

And that leads me to the Yankees. The winningest franchise in baseball history has also always been the richest. That's because of their huge stadium that could be filled by people from the most populous city in the nation, a population which also gave the Yankees huge television money. Unlike football, where TV revenues are national and shared, baseball teams' TV contracts are local and vary widely, with the rich (like the Yankees) competing against the less-rich (like the A's). It's unfair and contributes to the feeling that Yankee fans are front-runners. (And, unlike either the Dodgers or the Giants, the Yankees didn't have to face another New York team 22 times every year.)

The Cowboys earned their place near the top of the heap. But it was CBS and their unrelenting hype that bugged everyone else.

I know. Lol. I get it. I respect it. It truly does not bother me. I have good friends who are Eagle and Giant fans. I respect the fact they do not like us.
