There you go again. One comment by Glenn Beck turns into "the extremist right wing radio heads seem to talk about murder a lot." Exaggeration is a scare tactic, is it not? You don't see that you're doing this right now? Do you listen to right wing radio and read right wing books? As this is an academic forum, could you cite the books that "talk about murder a lot"?

How am I misrepresenting what you said?

    I asked a simple question:

Are you willing to condemn ALL DISRUPTIVE POLITICAL DEMONSTRATIONS, regardless of whether they are mounted by the left or the right?

It's not particularly difficult. 'Yes' or 'no' will suffice.

My own position is unambiguous --

I oppose politically-motivated threats, intimidation and disruption on principle. I favor civility, thoughtfulness and reasoned discussion in political life. But in order for that to happen, it's necessary that all sides behave responsibly, regardless of which party is in power.

So once again, do you have the consistency and the courage to join me in condemning politically-motivated intimidation and disruption, without any regard to which side is performing those poisonous things?

If you read my posts, you will see I already answered your question. But I will clarify, big mouths yelling and shouting on either side discourage civil discussion.

I am not concerned with you calling me a hypocrite if you would like. I am here to state my opinions. If some do not like what I have to say, they do not have to read my posts. It is as simple as that.

Very well; I'll take that as an agreement to disagree.

It was nice talking with you...

I would like to talk up the fashion angle. While I believe that I'd find the AK to be better protection overall, it is difficult to match it with your outfits. Obviously you can go with camo and basic black will work quite nicely. You could also go with OD but the chic possibilities essentially end there. The sword, however is more versatile from a fashion perspective. You can dress up or dress down. I believe that the key is in the scabbard. There would be so many choices. Metal. Leather. Even fabric. I'd be thinking about a composite material. Light, strong, comes in a variety of colors. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that I'm going with the sword. ;)

You too. Keep up the good work on your M.S. I am trying to wrap up my M.B.A. right now. It hasn't been easy.

Remember that one guy that went to an Obama rally wearing an assault rifle?

That was weird, especially since the guy with the rifle was black. What a racist.

Its OK if you are afraid of guns you do not have to own one. But, do not try and twist one of my rights to make yourself feel better with being afraid.

    Elites. Ick.

Who said I did not own a gun? Who said I was afraid of guns? I could care less how many guns you own.

    Don't be silly.

We don't get all that many self-defense threads on this board and so I'm going to see if I can make a detour in this thread and bring up a peripheral topic.

One of the waifs wanted a knife to keep at home for self-defense. She wanted a BIG knife. I consulted a guy I know who said "bigger is not always better" (isn't that just like a guy). He said that in an enclosed area (like an apartment) a really big knife like a machete might be a liability because you may not have the room to swing it around properly. He said that a small knife might be more effective. BUT, he also said that probably the best self-defense weapon that you could buy would be a short-barrelled shotgun. Fill it with bird shot and let it fly. Even if your aim is bad (it's a panic thing) you're bound to hit something with that wide dispersal pattern.
    I'm just saying . . .

I would say the shotgun advice is good. At the highest levels of martial arts, a student is taught to fight within inches and even centimeters on an opponent (close range). This usually involves strikes to vital areas, or "tenderizing" strikes to induce extreme pain/confusion. Once the subject is confused, a finishing strike is administered. The object is to end the fight as quickly as possible, thus reducing the risk of injury to oneself. Close range fighting also reduces "telegraphing" movements, and reduces the opponents visibility.

So to recap, a small legal size knife is good to carry just in case. I tell people to make sure and know how to use it, otherwise don't brandish it. The odds of someone taking the knife away and using it on the person is to great.

I could go on and on, but I have to run,

    Take it easy,

    Abner :)
