WGU & SNHU are 'neck & neck', very close in enrollment numbers. Just a few thousand separate the two for top spot. This article indicates differences between the institutions competency based model and number of teachers, to the students per instructor/mentor ratio.

Wow, University of the People have over 126K students now, they've shot up to around the same number as Arizona State University (135K).

IIRC, UoP had more than 200K students at one time, perhaps more.

You'd think that an article that refers to "Mega-Universities" would at least mention all the ones in other countries that have been around for decades, but oh well.

Not if you're on the receiving end of their tuition.

How about more than twice that? Wikipedia says, "In 2010, UoPX claimed a peak enrollment of more than 470,000 students with a revenue of $4.95 billion."

Gotta admit - 470,000 students sounds somewhat crazy. But $4.95 billion? Not crazy at all...
Yearly average take from each student around $10,400 ... not bad! The model worked!

Yeah, I didn't want to overstate it and I was too lazy to look it up. But it sounds right. It was a little over 200K when I was there (20 years ago now).
