Ok, so many of you may know (or not) that I've homeschooled our children for the past 18 years while teaching at the local community college and earning my own degrees nontraditionally. After many chaotic and impromptu meetings with fellow homeschoolers about how to merge CLEP/DSST/etc. tests with existing popular homeschool curriculum and get into college the traditional way, I went ahead and wrote it all down. And I added some more, and well, 178 pages later I decided to wrap it in a cover. :)

Not sure I'll ever do THAT again, lol, but nonetheless, I'd like to announce the birth of my first book!

Jennifer - Congratulations on your achievement. Lots of people talk about writing a book, you've done it. I've followed your posts over the years and am not surprised. I find this an interesting topic and an important one. Best of luck.

Congratulations, Jennifer! That's great news! Be sure to offer it on Amazon as a download for the Kindle platform in addition to offering it as a traditional book. Kindle e-books are selling like hotcakes.

Awesome. My homeschooled wife did a number of CLEPs before starting college and wondered why few others did the same. We plan to prepare our homeschooled children to do the same (of course, they're in middle school...).

WOO HOO!!! Congrats! I knew you were working on it, so glad it's done! I'll recommend it to some of the people I know who are either homeschooling or adults who are just starting college.

    Just recommended it on Facebook!

    Good job!

My kids are in public schools, but I still intend for them to walk away with credit from CLEP and DSST. The amount of overlap between what high school students study and what college students study for general education is pretty broad, so why not kill two birds with one stone?

Thanks everyone! I think more people know about non-traditional credit earning than ever before, and there are more HOMESCHOOLERS than ever before, but in my circles (online and f2f) many homeschool families are hesitant to use anything that isn't "homeschool curriculum" and also don't intend on their child pursuing non-traditional colleges. Unfortunately, CLEP/DSST/etc seems to always be geared toward the distance learner or someone who wants to brain-cram-dump and test out of their degree.
That isn't the approach I'm taking with my own kids, so I understand what their asking, but couldn't find a resource to share. Truthfully, all my resources (like this board) require you to have the mindset of wading through a lot to take what you need. I love that- but many people feel like that's too much info and don't pursue it.
So, the net result uses "homeschool speak" and helps them with brands they already know, and shows them how non-traditional credit CAN fit into a traditional plan.
FWIW, I don't love to write, and I don't think I'm especially good at it, but felt really compelled to do it! Not sure what that means, maybe that I need therapy, but I'm still proud of it and hope that people find it useful.

AV8R- yes, I did do the e-reader option, but because of the multi-format aspect, I'm not in love with that finished product. I don't use an e-reader, so maybe I'm not aligned with reality, but I like page breaks at certain places, white space, etc. and all those are removed on those versions. I have really no control over any of that, so I'll just accept it.

Thanks for all the kind words and support!!

I was this close "fingers pinched" to buying it and having it delivered to my iPad Kindle till I realized it wasn't available in e-book format. You might want to rethink your stance. I will probably buy it but the instant gratification of e-books is great.
Not to mention the fact that I cannot store all of the books I own anymore. I have run out of room for physical books because I don't have a massive bookshelf and don't really want one.

It's available on Kindle, and if you have amazon prime it's free now during their promotion.

Also, I don't really know how it works with e-formats, but I think that since its electronic you can view it on a number of e-readers...but I can't say that with any confidence. Someone much more ebook savvy would have to comment.

Neat! I'll share that on Facebook. We have a ton of homeschoolers in my community that could benefit from the information you've put together.

    Thanks!

It's true. I'd already started in my profession before I was married, and thought it was a good play to keep my maiden name in there. In hindsight, it's been a disaster (I'm NEVER found in anyone's database the first time) but too much of a pain to change, and we've been married...oh gosh, this will be 20 years, so, I'm just keeping it. :)
