    Re: What is the problem

I do not know a lot about this issue but noticed that Dr. Bernard Lander (President of TC) is on the board of trustees of TUI:

Assuming TUI is based in LA, your CV should look like this to be accurate:

    EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Science in Accounting - 5/2002
Touro University International, Branch Campus of Touro College
    Distance Programs
    Los Angeles, CA

I guess if you list the degree as from TUI, a branch of Touro College, that would clear it up a bit. But it looks, in my professional opinion, strange. And "strange" isn't good for resumes and applications.

I doubt when Touro University International's College of Business Administration applies to and be accredited by AACSB, a TUI graduate with a business degree care to mention Touro College in his or her resume. A few faculties of the school of business who I had have conversations in the past indicated that accreditation by AACSB is extremely important. I believe it is far more important than the ranking of Touro College by a magazine. I would rather graduate from an AACSB accredited school than a third tier or even a second tier school without AACSB accreditation.

    Another interesting USnews listing:

"U.S. News lists 246 online graduate degree programs in five disciplines. All programs have the stamp of approval of their regional accrediting boards, which set rigorous standards for higher education and qualify them for federal aid programs. Many have also obtained accreditation from their professional association."

I agree with you, Digit, and I'm not a TUI student at the moment.
The rating is not necessarily indicative of the quality of any of Touro's branch campuses, but I'm sure it feels good to know that the main campus has a solid reputation.

TUI is too new to be ranked as of now, but I wouldn't be surprised that they too would do well a couple of years from now.
So far I have been impressed with the quality of their programs and the feedback from their students.

    Question

    Bottom line--

Should the ranking of Touro weigh in on my decision to apply to TUI.

No. The ranking of TUI should weigh in your decision, not TC. If I chose to attend UC-Haas [ie Berkeley] for an MBA, the ranking of UCLA-Anderson would be pretty irrelevant since they are two different schools. While the relationship of TUI to TC might be a lot "closer" than branch campuses of traditional systems, my understanding is that the degrees are just as different.

    Re: Question

    Maybe.
Reputations are funny things. Sometimes people will judge your situation based more on their assumptions than the facts. Even accepting the opposing arguments (which in this case I don't neccesarily accept, it is an unusual situation), this could work in your favor.

No, I do not want to hear anyone go one about the ethical dilemna this brings up. You are stating it is a branch of Touro. If grad schools or employers can discriminate based on distance learning without regard to rigor, I believe I could sleep at night by stating the truth about the relationship between TUI and Touro and letting the chips fall where they may.
