Corrupted though it is, I'm watching the World Cup today.
I'm pulling for France to repeat as World Cup Champions, but I would really enjoy it if wee Lionel shows up today and plays to his potential.

As "alternative facts", if one does not want to cope with reality, are en vogue these days, well, I decided to adopt this technique.
So, I decided to believe that La France did in reality win the World Cup!!

It was a most exciting match, one for the ages.

I am disappointed that the most important soccer championship in the world was decided by something that isn't soccer. Might as well have tried Rock/Paper/Scissors/Lizard/Spock.

I would have preferred sudden-death OT. Of course, the way things unfurled, that would have yielded the same outcome.

How did they decide it? I'm not a sports fan, so I didn't watch it.

Neither did I, but a friend did. From the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp.):

"In probably the wildest final in the tournament's 92-year history, Argentina won its third World Cup title by beating France 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a 3-3 draw featuring two goals from the 35-year-old Messi and a hat trick by his heir apparent, France forward Kylian Mbappé."

Isn't that kinda normal in soccer?

I proposed using three balls at the same time (like multiball/flipper). The FIFA did not respond yet.

I don't know what, if anything, is normal about soccer.

I DID hear something about the UK sending 800 Soccer Hooligans to Ukraine - to assist Ukrainian forces in straightening out Putin's mob. They'll do well, I'm sure. :)
