A federal judge in Austin just did the inevitable and blocked Abbott's law giving Texas police the power to arrest, detain and deport undocumented aliens. Of course he did.

It's like they can't follow the law without the courts ordering them to do so.

They can't follow the law with a MAP, so the courts had to be brought in as guides. The alternative was to give them guide-dogs, but NOBODY wants to see anything bad happen to those wonderful dogs, through bungling, etc. by low-grade (and stupid) humans!

Abbott won't follow the law even IF the courts order him to.

Again, these people aren't stupid; they know exactly what they're doing. It doesn't matter what's constitutional, it matters what's popular with the populist base.

When their unconstitutional legislation is overturned, then they get to blame "activist judges" for oppressing them, without actually dealing with the consequences for that legislation. Win-win!

I believe every word of that. Dang... it was much more comforting, just to think they were stupid. Well.. that's gone, for good.

A panel of federal appeals court judges in Austin have handed Texas a temporary win in its ongoing duel with the Administration over immigration at the southern border.

On Saturday, three 5th Circuit judges in Texas’ Western District granted a seven-day administrative stay on a lower court’s ruling that Texas law enforcement officers could not detain undocumented immigrants who illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border. The order effectively reverses that decision for a short amount of time, giving state officers extensive power to arrest, detain, and deport migrants without federal approval. The Biden Administration may still appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court.

The Biden administration filed an emergency request with the Supreme Court on Monday asking the justices to freeze enforcement of Texas’ controversial immigration law that allows state law enforcement to arrest and detain people they suspect of entering the country illegally.

This was destined to go to SCOTUS, so the sooner the better, I suppose.

And the justices reinstated the trial court's preliminary injunction. I don't know what the Fifth Circuit thinks it's doing these days.
