    I don't hate the military. But I don't respect some who have served in it.

    Once again, just another silly mechanical reply; AND a lot more response than I should bother with…

    PS As I mentioned before ... I knew YOU would be the very first to chime in on my comments to John. Consider that you were set-up Rich (no surprise at all as you immediately took the bait). You're downright just too easy ...

    PPS Regarding minion ... oh but yes you are!

    Perhaps if you shed your narrow view of the world...and in this thread, you would see that other things are going on besides the few you perceive. I'll leave it to you to figure out.

    You’re stuffed full of your own counsel aren't you. :biggrin:

    What an interesting comment. Who among us isn't stuffed full of our own counsel? At least Rich has spent much more time and effort than most people to ensure that his counsel is worth being stuffed with.

    Sure...

    BTW Kizmet, any enforced rules regarding complete hijacking of a discussion thread topic? Just asking...

    That’s your view Steve; and I appreciate that you definitely have that prerogative. My quantifying simply differs with yours on this matter (e.g., this thread topic does not relate to DL whatsoever: Re Off-Topic Discussions). Are you objectively intending that his counsel dwarfs most others in areas even external the DL arena? That would be some really extensive expertise recognition to propose…

    BTW, these being your very first comments on this particular discussion thread; yet as have been Rich's remarks to date, are actually immaterial to the subject matter (re SGT Bergdahl faces little-known, rarely used misbehavior charge). I could consider your drop in as interesting too…

    No, formal study of one thing doesn't make a person be an expert in other things. But it's not like he doesn't have military experience, and that's the topic.

    If you're thinking that because I was defending Rich as an expert on this that I was implying you're not one also, I assure you that's not the case.

    I'm surprised Sgt. Bergdahl hasn't been invited to the White House yet . . .:grumble:

    Right. Or he could wait to see if they offer him an Article 15 instead of court-martial. Then he could run for Congress in Florida...as long as he was willing to be in the GOP.

    Trump's running mate?

    According to Trump, he's already the one who brings military experience to the ticket. That's a lie he normally keeps in his head, but that's usually fine with the GOP.

    I would consider that an Article 15 is not going to be an offered alternative by the Army prosecutors re the SGT Bergdahl case (e.g., a desertion charge vs AWOL). As you know Rich; Article 15 is denoted as Non-Judicial Punishment (NJP) wherein the commander decides whether or not the accused is guilty or not guilty of the charge/s (referred to as: Captain’s Mast /Office Hours in the Navy /USMC). The consequence of the accused being offered and accepting an Article 15 vs court-martial—is that the commander becomes the judge and jury for the case and the accused, by choosing the Article 15, doing so forfeits the right to a trial by court-martial (Summary, Special, or General Court-martial, contingent on the charges).

    The maximum punishments an enlisted service member can receive via an Article 15:

    If heard by a Field Grade Officer (O-4 and up):
    • Admonition or reprimand;
    • Confinement on diminished rations;
    • Correctional custody of not greater than 30 days;
    • Forfeiture of not greater than half of base pay for not more than 60 days;
    • Rank reduction (to E-1 for E-4 & below, one pay grade for E-5 & up);
    • Extra duty of not more than 45 days; and
    • Restriction of not more than 60 days.

    If heard by a Company Grade Officer (up to an O-3):
    • Admonition or reprimand;
    • Confinement on diminished rations;
    • Correctional custody of not greater than 7 days;
    • Forfeiture of not more than 7 days base pay;
    • Rank reduction (one grade for E-4 & below, no reduction for E-5 & up);
    • Extra duty of not more than 14 days; and
    • Restriction of not more than 14 days.
