From a practical standpoint - when picking a place to live avoid locations where you will have to take the 520, I-5, or I-405 any time near rush hour. I live on the other side of the state, but am in the Seattle area on a regular basis. If you are not averse to public transportation, your options open up exponentially to include some nice places just a short ferry ride away on the other side of the sound. In Seattle proper, I think the nicest areas are West Seattle and north up by the University of Washington or Ballard area.
I really enjoyed the times I've been in Washington; it’s a truly beautiful state. My favorite place to visit was Mount Rainier National Park. A close friend of mine Craig Reynolds, after coming over from the Pirates, was the starting shortstop for the Mariners (1977-78) before being traded to his hometown team the Houston Astros (1979-89). He always reminded me how often it rains in Seattle. And if you like Rainbow trout you'll love Washington; best I’ve ever eaten!
For more information on Seattle areas, crime, schools (if that matters), neighborhoods to live in or avoid, diversity, etc. Check out these forums: Seattle Area I actually utilized this list when we moved to the east coast. It's a big help.
Thanks Truckie! I appreciate that advice! My husband is the one who will be traveling at rush hour times so this is great information for me to give him
