The worst part about repressive regimes is the pay is terrible. Though the perks are usually pretty good.

 

There are other members more deserving of a ban, but this might have happened privately...at least I hope so.

 

Some of our moderators might also consider moderating discussions rather than jumping in and poking people in the eye until they get worked up enough to warrant a ban. Just generally speaking, of course.

Wish you guys would stick up for ALL members when they're banned. Not just your own cheerleaders.

 

Please show me the thread where Rich was my cheerleader. Go ahead, just one thread. I can point to at least a half dozen where the two of us fought and at least one where a moderator privately intervened in those disagreements.

As for sticking up for "ALL" members does that include the countless shills who come here, make one post full of spammy links, and get banned? Because I don't have the time or inclination to do that. But, by all means, enjoy your victory lap.

 

Calm down. You're making snarky comments to a moderator about a banning is what I'm referring too, no need to get snotty by assuming I mean shills and spammers need not be banned. And by cheerleading I'm referring to those of the same political mindset. Like me agreeing with Bruce or Steve and yes even sometimes Rich. And just because you disagree with someone doesn't mean you still don't hold them in high regard, does it? That'd be weird.

I'm not taking a victory lap because he got banned, I don't agree with his banning either but I don't make up the rules and I'm not a moderator. This overly emotional response does not look good on you.

 

Sorry, I read his post and did not see anything that came across as "overly emotional". That term makes me think of someone throwing a hissy fit or something.

I'm really not a fan of the troll tactic of pretending that the other person is flying off in a fit of rage and you are maintaining a level head throughout.

Nor was my comment intended to be entirely snarky. There is at least one moderator here who whips people into a frenzy. That isn't what moderators are for.

In the case of Rich one of the intense political disagreements was with a moderator. While some of our moderators are really great at keeping an appropriate distance between themselves and controversial topics that would impact their impartiality some are not.

Let me just end by saying that I fully understand why, on this forum, people choose anonymity. The frivolous lawsuits are more than enough reason. The idea that some diploma mill shill will start harassing an employer is a realistic concern for many. But using that anonymity to lob controversial political opinions and ad hominem attacks against people isn't self-preservation; it is cowardice.

To speak to another person with, whom I often disagree, Bruce is in the most precarious position of anyone in commenting on BLM. And still he is willing to comment under his actual name. Agree or disagree with him he is willing to put his name to a potentially controversial comment.

As you know, I've been on this board for a long time. I'm no troll. I apologize for inferring that you were speaking in a tone that was not intended. I guess that's the way I read it. Seems we agree on much of what is going on, I don't see the personal attack from a mod though. Unless you're referring to asserting that someone using a logical fallacy is a personal attack?
