Saint Peters's University offers a Ph.D. in Data Science online. Honestly, this is the first time I have heard of this university. At first, I thought it was from Russia because of Saint. Petersburg. Saint Peter's University is a higher academic institution of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) located in Jersey City, New Jersey. URL: https://www.saintpeters.edu/academics/graduate-programs/phd-data-science/ "Advance your career into research and leadership roles in the Analytics and Data Science fields. The new Ph.D. Program in Data Science program allows students from multiple data science backgrounds, including industry professionals, to earn a doctoral degree. Dive deep into cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), and Big Data Analytics. Learn how to leverage leading platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, IBM Watson, Tableau, Hadoop, Google Cloud, and TensorFlow to solve real-world challenges in data science. Fully online option is also available."
Man, this is really interesting. I need to look into this school further. I am currently working as a data scientist and while I don't NEED a PhD, when it comes to higher level positions a PhD does carry some weight. If I could get this done in 4-5 years (4 would be better) it actually might wind up being worth it.
There are more than 3,500 degree-granting institutions in the U.S. They're probably still naming them all.
I don't see any tuition details. The Financial Aid section provides data on a yearly basis which looks like it's intended for FT, on campus students.
$995 per credit. https://www.saintpeters.edu/enrollment-services/student-accounts/tuition-and-fees/ I could have sworn that it was $800, but when I just checked again it was $995. That might be a little too much for me. Even if I get 12 credits transferred in from my Masters degree it is still just under $58,000. I have to give some serious thought as to whether it is worth it in terms of ROI.
You have other alternatives - Florida Atlantic University's Ph.D. in Computer Science specializing in Data Science Analytics - National University's Ph.D in Data Science - Pennsylvania State University's Doctor of Engineering in Data Analytics - University of the Cumberlands' Ph.D. in Information Technology specializing in Data Science - Colorado Technical University's Doctor of Computer Science in Big Data Analytics - Capitol Technology University's Ph.D. in Business Analytics and Data Science
City University of Seattle's Doctor of Information Technology (DIT) includes a specialization of 12 credits. Although a data science specialization isn't currently listed, they have an MS in Data Science, and "Students can either transfer in their specialization credits or take them from one of our five master’s programs." walruspanda on degreeforum is taking the Purdue Global EdD with a cognate in IT. It appears flexible as to cognates from transfer credit. Drexel University offers graduate minors that can be attached to a master's or doctorate. The courses to complete a Business Analytics or Business Analytics Management minor are presumably available online (from Drexel's online MSBA). The minor could likely be attached to a Drexel online EdD. An elective strand in Applied Data Analytics can be attached to the College of St. Scholastica online EdD.
