Public colleges are becoming less public, fueling inequality

    Yeah, whenever state legislatures look for something to cut, they cut the education budget.

    Not in the Bay State; the top earners for state employees in Massachusetts always come from the UMass system, and even the state community colleges are well represented for big salaries.

    UMass tuition is on the higher end for public universities, but when compared to private schools, it's still a bargain, UMass-Amherst is very well-ranked, and UMass-Lowell has been steadily climbing the rankings in the last 10 years or so.
