    Say what????

I hope the poster was referring to 13 pages of references, and not 13 references overall. Then again..........

Does anyone know where or how we could obtain copies of K-W dissertations? That would go a long way towards determining their academic legitimacy.

It is notoriously difficult getting the authorities interested in degree mills unless the degree mill starts granting medical degrees. There's much stronger laws against degree mills granting medical degrees and much more interest in getting them closed down.

UMI's DAI is the obvious answer. Oops ... UMI doesn't like covering degree mill dissertations. Well any bona fide school would have all their dissertations "published" in their library. Oops ... K-W might not have a library? Well any bona fide school would have to have a list of the dissertations published otherwise they aren't really published dissertations and the claim to a Ph.D. would be bogus.

Bill makes a very important distinction. People with bogus medical degrees can do real harm. In most other cases involving fake credentials, either little or no harm is done, or whatever harm was done could have been prevented with a little bit of checking. There are, of course, exceptions, like the guy John helped expose who'd been an expert witness in a number of trials based in part on his fake degree(s). Still, it seems the vast majority of fake degree claims are done in much more innocuous settings, normally employment. And employers are fully capable of verifying credentials. That they don't is what allows schools like Kennedy-Western, Century, and straight-out degree mills to flourish.

I tried to link to the Kennedy-Western University "Pub" tonight, without success. It seems as though they've taken it private, requiring a login to even access the site. Could someone else confirm this?

If so, great. I felt they were hypocritical to run a public board, then summarily boot anyone who didn't toe the party line. Now they can have their pity party in private, where it belongs.

I'm not saying K-WU is a degree mill. But I'm not sure what distinguishes it from such.

Yes, it was reported here earlier.

I'm sure K-W is now glad that the truth will no longer be allowed on the board, but they've also lost a formerly valuable marketing tool. Then again, it could be said they lost it as soon as people from here crashed the party.
