Okay I'm confused by the Freedom Caucus

The FCs defeated a procedural motion on the House Floor that McCarthy backed. They did so as "revenge" for the Debt Limit Deal. Fine but the legislation thus blocked is a bill to forbid the Administration from adopting a rule banning gas kitchen stoves. Not that the Administration has any intention of adopting such a rule but the FCs voted with the Democrats (!) to defeat the Speaker's attempt to keep that from happening!

So...is it me? Or are the FCs loonytoons?

I notice that the caucus in question spends all of its time trying to make Americans LESS free.

 

Yes, less free for females, less free for LGBTQ+, less free for racial minorities, less free for immigrants, less free for Democrats, for everyone else at least equally free. Which is just white straight Republican males (assuming I didn't miss anyone in the less free list).

 

It's interesting to watch though. Hate based decision-making leads to self defeat.

 

Or World War 3, depending on the decision-maker and decisions.

 

There's something toddler-like about punishing McCarthy by giving the Democrats what they want. It's like holding your breath until you turn blue.

 

Of course, the rational toddler does this because he knows he has no actual power. Maybe the FC folks realize the same thing?

 

As they say, when your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

Their only tool is "No." There is simply NO "Yes" for them. About anything. So if the Democrats aren't wanting something from them, and they're not, then they have no one but other Republicans to bedevil with their big, fat "No."

 

Good - maybe they'll hold it permanently at some point - with the inevitable result. Problem solved.
