Carlosb: Read this thread that Bruce had to lock. Has it all, even another conspiracy.

Me: Thanks. I have read through the posts, and now everything suddenly seems logical.

My guess is that Bruce will have to lock this one. I don't think there's much left to write.

I believe the answer you seek can be found at this thread:

    http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?t=12712

From the glowing report I guess an unaccredited degree from an open admissions for-profit school might not be so bad.

What conclusions? You must mean the following... NoCentral U is a tiny "also ran" in the DL market that offers overpriced degree programs that are promoted on this board by anonymous shills/trolls.

Of course, my opinion is changing because they are dropping the undergraduate tuition from $375 to $250 per semester hour on July 1, 2007. The MBA program is dramatically overpriced still though, so perhaps that will come down soon, too. Soon all their programs may be priced where they could be recommended alongside other schools.

Are you a student there? If so, what has your experience been? It seems like the rolling starting dates and flexible term length are nice features. Are you assigned single mentor for multiple courses or does the mentor change with each course? Do you have any idea how many students are assigned to each course mentor? Are there other attributes of the school that you like compared to other schools? Thanks in advance, if you have time to answer.

Lets say that someone finds their unaccredited DBA is illegal in some states and his PhD RA school is up for sale to either a non or for-profit entity. This could make the person angry and jealous. Maybe some anger management is in order. Seriously.

Dave Wagner, how much was your tuition for your DBA from California Pacific University? Since it's unaccredited, the amount for tuition should be somewhat inexpensive.

Yes, that's the general conclusion to which I referred.

Actually, I am considering Northcentral, but I'm certainly no troll or shill. Check my past posts, and you can see that. I'm a frequent lurker, infrequent poster.

Since you asked, here's what I am looking for in an online degree program:

    1. Must be regionally accredited.

    2. Must be totally online.

    3. Cost is important.

    4. Flexible start dates...can I start and finish on MY time, not on a fixed calendar set by the university or college?

I am interested in seeing what others think. I suppose I was a bit hasty to conclude in a previous post that there was nothing "much left to write." :)

Dave, you must have overlooked this, or perhaps I overlooked your answer, for which I am sorry if I did..."Out of my own insatiable curiosity and nothing more, do you have any personal, first-hand experience with Northcentral that leads you to your conclusions about NCU? And if not, upon what do you base your attitudes?"

I really don't keep up with the politics on this board, nor do I keep up with who has degrees and where they're from, so please forgive me if I'm not aware...Does Mr. Wagner claim a doctorate from California Pacific University? If so, perhaps he can share the reasons he chose the school. I am interested in learning a bit about California Pacific. Perhaps Mr. Wagner can shed some light on this school, as I am totally unaware. Mr. Wagner, would you compare California Pacific to an RA school such as Northcentral in terms of academic rigor, preparation for the world of business, utility, perception, etc.? For a graduate business degree, which would be a better option, Mr. Wagner, Northcentral or California Pacific? Please provide specifics, as I am really interested in learning more of your opinions, Mr. Wagner.

Interesting, Touro University International with no CHEA-recognized professional accrediation is $12,000

Northcentral University with CHEA -recognized professional accrediation is $15,200

Wonder why the For-profit school the guy that cannot stay away from NCU fourms claims to teach for is not on the list ????????????

You should request a catalog, so you can compare it to any of your target schools; anything I could tell you about selecting California Pacific is almost 12 years old, when NoCentral U was still a part of unaccredited/state-approved SCUPS. Of the California State-Approved schools, California Pacific probably offers one of the better business programs. Still, SCUPS is there, too, but I don't know anybody currently in that program. I'm guessing that you should consider pure DL RA online schools such as NoCentral U and Touro. If you can handle residencies, then there are many other RA doctoral options.

    Does that help?

I am fascinating each and every year or for that matter every couple of years we come with the same situation pointing fingers about degrees, oh! My degree is better than yours or your degree is that or my degree is this. I being a long time member of Degree info and I can recall the time when all senior members were in diapers around 1995 or so. I can even remember the big fights or arguments among Dr. Levicoff and Dr. Douglas. I can also remember when some of us made big mistakes in enrolling at very substandard places. Why because the options were limited to no existence. And for those that have done their home work they exactly know what I am talking about.

From time to time need and situation changes, while new doors open that did not existed during early 1990’s and late 20 century.
So a background of all the School I have been:
    1) American University of Puerto Rico
    2) Universidad Interamericana
    3) Phoenix University
    4) Universidad Metropolitana de Puerto Rico
    5) St. Thomas University
    6) Southern California University for Professional Studies
    7) Troy State University
    8) University of Miami
    9) California Pacific University
    10) Upper Iowa University
    11) Northcentral University
    12) Ashworth College
    13) Argosy University
    14) Columbia Southern University
I hope this gives me enough experience to make a sound opinion of some universities discuses here
I finished degree in: American University of Puerto Rico, California Pacific University, and Upper Iowa University.
Currently Working in DBA in Argosy University (This School is the same as Sarasota University) and Columbia Southern University an MBA in Finance.
Why I choose some the above Universities?
    Different needs and different times.
I do not like Southern California University the structure their classes and other internal thing they got going on and when I went to Northcentral University, I found the same structure they have at SCUPS, Norhcentral program is rooted from Scups , I just didn’t like it and trust me I know I was a student at both.
But anyway CPU or California Pacific University. Was the best option at the time, and it did a met my current needs at the time, the school is well structure, economical and provided a good program. But anyway, their method of teaching, help me today with my new endeavors. Choosing a college is a matter of choice the same one you make when you go buy a car and yes it has to be better that your neighbor.
CPU is not for everyone and the program was not very easy as Dave and I can attest we both were student there. I saw CPU as an opportunity for the time was legal ( at least 48 states and territories, I can live with that) and considered to be preparation for things to come. The main thing I was able to do it. I will encourage you (new babies) to research the archives of Degree info and alt.distancelearnig.com forum. In there you will find all the necessary information that you are requesting!

Sorry guys no more of me since I am not here to promote or to defend any of my degrees and or schools that I have attended or I am attending. I do have much more important things to do.

    TATA!
    Nice day!

I too remember those days on the newsgroups, dejanews was very useful. Bought my first Dr. Bear book in the late 80s. Even back then I knew that an unaccredited degree was not a route I should take. Only needed to speak with my instructors at my community college to figure that out. And time sure did prove them right!

And you are right, certain schools fit different people better than others. That is why I also recommend people take the time to do their own research. It can be a big waste of time to jump from school to school. And some people with too much time on their hands may have a hidden agenda which may not have someone elses best interest in mind. By doing a little research you can easily tell who the trouble-making trolls are.

Some of us do not have the time to get an unaccredited MBA\DBA only to need to do the whole thing over again to earn one accredited. I am lucky. I did my research, earned my BS with the minimum 120 credits required, and moved on to the MBA which should be finished in a few months. Not one single wasted credit.

Like you, I do have much more important things to do.

It isn't even just an example of being legal. Being useful is important also. For example:

Degrees from these institutions will not be accepted by the Michigan Department of Civil Service as satisfying any educational requirements indicated on job specifications.

    http://www.michigan.gov/documents/Non-accreditedSchools_78090_7.pdf

    Two job applicants:

One has high school diploma and BBA\MBA\DBA from California Pacific University
    One has high school diploma

In the view of the Michigan Department of Civil Service both candidates have the same level of education.

Pretty embarrasing but not as bad as Texas!

    Another good link:

    http://web.hep.uiuc.edu/home/g-gollin/pigeons/

Thanks Dr. Gollin. The folder name "pigeons" is a real hoot!

So easy to cite references to back up claims. NCU taught me well!

Will Scups move in with NCU? What do SCUPS offices look like by the way?

Might want to e-mail SCUPS and ask them directly. Or e-mail Northcentral and ask them. Call them. Look up their address on Google Earth. That is what I would do. Since I have no interest in an unaccredited degree I never did.

When the question of Touro University-International possible sales came up again early this year I e-mailed Touro and was told yes, they are still committed to sell the school. I heard directly from Touro.

    So easy to do.

I am so happy that you have more important things to do!

I never requested that you--or anyone else--"defend" their degrees or schools. I merely asked a very simple, respectful question to Mr. Wagner pertaining to why HE chose to go with California Pacific University over other options. I am still waiting for HIS answer. I am sincerely interested in knowing his answer because I am curious about the school. I will compare and contrast on my own.

Thank you, however, for responding, Vinipink, and I hope you have a great day.
