I came across this while looking around for photos of the new building:

    http://www.ncu.edu/info.asp?i=185

There really is nothing around the place that I can see. Bet there will be a McDonalds and Starbucks there in no time though!

Now, now, Dave has a point...it is silly to celebrate a school's growth. Why, the fact that they even do a press release is telling....(note sarcasm)

California Pacific University can't be compared with NCU because it isn't regionally accredited. In fact, California Pacific University isn't even DETC accredited.

The for-profit owners of California Pacific University wrote this about paying for a regionally accredited college degree:
    • All of the approved degree programs offered by California Pacific University are thousands of dollars less than comparable programs offered by regionally accredited universities. In most cases, a master's degree at a regionally accredited "online" university will cost a student upwards of $20,000.00 in tuition fees. California Pacific University's quality programs will save students up to $16,000.00 in tuition fees alone. The reason for CPUs lower tuition is a tight control on costs, lack of educational bureaucracy, no tenured faculty, no excess administrators, and most of all, no pressure to fill hundreds of classroom seats term after term. Source
I also called the phone number for Californa Pacific University at 800 458-9667 and got a recorded message stating that their business hours are from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM and telling the listener to leave a message. Weird.

The new building was announced and discussed awhile back; yawn. NoCentral U is a relatively insignificant school that we hear too much trivia about on this board.

Thank you, Dave, for clarifying your position about Northcentral. Your opinion concerning NCU is clearer now.

What do you mean exactly? Are you saying that people only take undergrad courses at NCU for transfer? Transfer to where? The Big Three?

I haven't looked at the NCU undergrad programs and frankly don't know much about them. However, NCU does offer the distance undergrad degree while UCLA seems to only offer and undergrad certificate. So, comparing them seems apples to oranges.

If people are only wanting to amass credits then there seems to be even cheaper options out than either UCLA or NCU. Wouldn't Peru State, LSU, or FHSU be more cost effective for raising credits?

    Even more interesting is this:

    http://www.cpu.edu/degreepro.htm

Open admissions! Guess it is one of those open admissions for-profit school being discussed about around here. Only difference is it is not even accredited.

Anyway, enough from me regarding CPU. If anyone wants to read discussions on this unaccredited open admissions for-profit school there are plenty here from years ago. Just search CPU and one of your favorite DI contributers. May be surprised what you find!

To each their own I guess.

Hummmmmm good point. Thus, someone would be a hypocrite for chastising the open enrollement of for-profit RA universities while he concurrently graduated from an open enrollment for-profit unaccredited school. Veddy Veddy in-ta-rrrrresting. ;)

I'm not sure how to spell hypocrite, but I know it when I see it!

"Are you saying that people only take undergrad courses at NCU for transfer? "

    - No. Thats is not what I said or implied. Both NCU and UCLA offer undergraduate courses. NCU offers undergrad degrees online. UCLA offers certain courses at a cheaper price. If a student ever so desired, he or she can take such course at UCLA and transfer them to whatever program desired, as long as the parent university or college accepts such credits. If the student wishes, he or she may earn credits or a degree at NCU or elsewhere. I was providing info on cheaper course alternatives that may be used for transfer.

"I haven't looked at the NCU undergrad programs and frankly don't know much about them. However, NCU does offer the distance undergrad degree while UCLA seems to only offer and undergrad certificate. So, comparing them seems apples to oranges. "

    - They both offer courses, degrees, and are regionally accredited. NCU offering undergrad DL courses and degrees is nothing significant. Maybe for NCU it is. I like the new building and the land around NCU. There is a lot of room for expansion.

" If people are only wanting to amass credits then there seems to be even cheaper options out than either UCLA or NCU. "

    - Yes. Of course. However, those UCLA certificates may provide a little boost for a prospective applicants resume. UC Berkley offers certificates as well.

" Wouldn't Peru State, LSU, or FHSU be more cost effective for raising credits? " - Sure. If cost is of concern, I can list other cost effective alternatives. However, I wanted to provide options not discussed often.

By the way, for parents with children, Texas Tech University offers K-12 courses online. ( http://www.depts.ttu.edu/ode/K-12.asp ).

They also offer undergraduate independent study courses and a bachelor of general studies. http://www.depts.ttu.edu/distancelearning/prginfo.aspx?prgid=18

Wonder if someone would be a hypocrite if they taught at a for-profit school with open enrollment (say the University of Phoenix for example) while chastising another for-profit with open enrollment?

I think you gave some good information. I may be interested in doing a certificate program once I am finished with the MBA, whcih should be fairly soon.

    Thanks!

Hi. Sure thing. When new things happen at the school, it would be interesting to hear about them. And there are many other larger players in DL that we should discuss more often. For example, do we have any students doing degrees at Park University Online?

    Hey Dave,

Nice troll. Why are you shilling for Park University? You might want to tell the administration hijacking a thread about another school is not the best way to promote yours!

Thanks for the info dave .Park University offers online grad degrees and certs at lower cost to NCU's programs. Both schools are fine. Its up to the student to decide which school will meet their goals and ambitions.

Is Columbia Pacific University a degree mill? What kind of a legitimate university only has operating hours between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM --- and doesn't even answer the phone during those hours, but directs the listener to a phone message directing him to leave a name and phone number? Columbia Pacific appears to be a degree mill.

I do know they are illegal in Texas:

Institutions Whose Degrees are Illegal to Use in Texas

    http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/AAR/PrivateInstitutions/NoTX.cfm

California Pacific University California No accreditation from a CB recognized accreditor.

Why would anyone want to spend money on a degree from a unaccredited for-profit school with open admissions? That desperate for a DBA? Spending money on something deemed illegal. Might be enough to make someone an unhappy and angry, jealous person.

    Just a thought.

    I found the NCU Shrill!

I found the Northcentral University shrill that seems to upset someone here so much he cannot stay away from Northcentral threads. It is...........

    degreeinfo.com!

    http://www.degreeinfo.com/featured_schools.html

    Northcentral University is listed!

    individually screened !
    quality institutions!!

    How dare they say that!
Why isn't California Pacific University listed??

    Question for Dave:

Out of my own insatiable curiosity and nothing more, do you have any personal, first-hand experience with Northcentral that leads you to your conclusions about NCU? And if not, upon what do you base your attitudes?
