I've been around the old AED and the new DegreeInfo for many years. I go back as long as many of the original Gang of Six.

I completed an RA BA (Marshall University), a DETC MS (ISIM University - Home of the Fighting Onliners) and have just completed an RA PhD with Capella University.

My doctoral program ran for three and a half years. Slightly longer than I had hoped. It was nothing short of a terrific journey and full of enlightening experiences. There were many stressful moments and lots and lots of writing. I am very pleased with my work, accomplishments, and outcome.

My advice, for what its worth - perseverance. If you can't stick it out, don't bother starting. There are many opportunities for giving up and getting frustrated. You have to be able to go on autopilot quite often and just trudge through the mucky parts to get to the other side.

Anyway, Just thought I would announce my successful completion with Capella and wish anyone else considering a similar journey all the best in their efforts.

    Hello Dr. Coverstone,

I believe it must be a joyful moment at the end of a long journey to complete your PhD. I saw your name on Capella University Website (I hope it was the same person) and remembered two distinctive characteristics about your professional background. First, your master degree is from a DTEC accredited school (ISIM University). And second, you work in the geographic information system (GIS) field. I also work in the GIS field and am currently an ABD at Touro University. Are you continuing to work in the same field or going into academia? Whatever your choice is; I wish you the best of luck.

    Paul,

Congratulations on your accomplishment! Be careful of the "Ph.D. blues." You will be asking yourself, 'What's next,' and be a lifelong addict to education and DL. :)

    Wonderful news - congratulations.

And I remember that crap that was thrown at you over your DETC degree etc., for which no apologies were ever offered - you have proved more than a few wrong, and i hope a couple around here hang their heads even if only for a moment.

Perseverence in more ways than one .... !

Congratulations. Should we set up a list at degreeinfo.com to collect the names and stories of all people who finish a doctorate degree by DL?

Congratulations, Dr. Coverstone! If this were one of those silly chat forums where folks offer each other imaginary goodies, I'd give you a virtual T-shirt that reads:

Congrats Dr. Paul! What an awesome accomplishment.

Tell me, did you find the dissertation process more frustrating or difficult than your other years of school? I am looking to begin a PhD program and would love a "heads up" of what's to come.

    Congratulations,

Like Steven I would be interested in hearing about the journey. What was as you expected, what was not as expected, etc.

    Congratulations Dr. C!

You give hope to other DETC graduates. We recently had someone pursuing a nationally accredited B.A. express hope that he would be able to go on to an R.A. graduate school.
