    Hallo everybody!
I used to get very useful information on this forum last year, and I am more than thankful for that. I hope this time here will be also somebody with good advice.

I will finish my MBA in Finance in a few months. I would also like to add accounting courses to be able to go toward CPA designation as well. I need 27 additional credits in accounting if sit for it in NYS. My questions are:
    1. what is the fastest, the cheapest, the smartest way to complete it? It must be RA school. On line preferred, since I have two demanding children with autism and epilepsy and can not travel a lot
    2. does anyone know- if I sit for the CPA in another state will I be able to work in NYS where I live or the licence MUST be issued from the state where you intend to work.

Thanks to everybody who can help me.

As per your NY State CPA question:

"Out-of-state CPAs practicing nonattest services in New York — including CPAs in industry, tax, government, consulting, or education — will now be allowed to practice without notifying the state, but will be subject to the disciplinary authority of the New York State Board of Regents. For out-of state CPAs providing attest and compilation services in New York, the law is stricter because these services are viewed as invoking public protection issues. CPAs engaging in attest and compilation services provide the public with information on the financial health of, among others, state and local governments and public companies.

Although the new law requires an out-of-state CPA whose principal place of business is New York state to be licensed in New York, the regulations allow an out-of-state CPA who is licensed by a state with “significantly comparable” licensure requirements to New York’s, as recognized by a national professional accounting organization, to be licensed by endorsement if the applicant can demonstrate four years of professional experience in public accounting in the last 10 years immediately preceding the application for licensure by endorsement.

Out-of-state CPAs whose principal place of business is not in New York may now provide attest or compilation services in New York for a limited period of time by obtaining a temporary practice permit. The temporary practice permit allows individuals who are licensed as CPAs in good standing (again, in a state that has “significantly comparable” licensure requirements to New York’s) to apply for a permit that is good for up to 180 days during a 12-month period and would be renewable no more than three times, provided the applicant remains in good standing in his or her home state of licensure. New York would retain the authority to prosecute holders of a temporary practice certificate for unprofessional conduct and to refer back to the home state for disciplinary action.

There are three states that are not considered to have significantly comparable licensure requirements to New York’s: Vermont, New Hampshire, and Colorado. However, CPAs from these states who are seeking a temporary practice permit or New York license through endorsement may be able to meet the criteria of the law if their individual licensure qualifications are verified by the State Education Department to be significantly comparable to New York’s.

Temporary practice permits can be renewed a maximum of three times, and the applicant can practice with the permit for no more than four years within a five-year period. CPAs cannot have more than one temporary practice permit at any given time. However, if a CPA applies for licensure in New York on or before the expiration of his or her temporary practice permit, the law allows that individual to continue to practice under the temporary practice permit during the time the licensure application is pending.
Out-of-state CPAs who are practicing in New York with a temporary practice permit may use their title, “certified public accountant” or “CPA,” while practicing here, if that CPA identifies his or her principal place of business in parenthesis after his or her title or designation."

Louisiana State University has a ton of accounting courses (11 to be exact) that are available via DL. To my knowledge, they offer the cheapest accounting courses around ($364 per course, counting all fees).

If anyone knows an RA school cheaper, let me know.

thanks everybody. I will go through links you have posted and try to figure out what to do. Yes, all the courses can be from undergrad level, but must be from RA school. Did anyone take courses through LSU?

As regards the LSU independent study accounting courses (and they are inexpensive); are they designated as online or correspondence via the LSU transcript? This could make a difference per a state licensure board. Moreover, some states limit the number of non-resident university /college accounting courses they’ll accept toward meeting minimum requirements for being admitted to take the Uniform CPA Examination.

WoW, this last post really gave me a hard time and lost of research. Being the foreigner, this American system seams now even more complicated:))
If anybody could help me to understand if LSU credits would satisfied requirements for NYS I would be MORE THAN appreciated. This seams as a last step in my research.
I will have MBA in finance, and 6 graduate accounting credits.
Regarding education requirements this is what I have found:

Option 3 – (150 licensure requirement) Candidates who applied for licensure or who completed their education
after August 1, 2009 and have completed 150 semester hours, must meet one of the following:
    1. Completed a registered 150 program approved by NYSED – (CPA Examination Services reviews
education. Complete Registered Program Form), or
    2. Completed a master's degree with a major in accounting from a school accredited in accounting by
AACSB – (CPA Examination Services reviews education), or
    3. Completed a bachelor's or higher degree and a minimum of 150 semester (225 quarter) hours in college
level education to include the following:
    • 33 semester (49.5 quarter) hours in accounting to include each of the following:
    • Financial accounting,
    • Cost accounting,
    • Taxation,
    • Audit and attestation,
    • Accounting research, and
    • 36 semester (54 quarter) hours in general business.
Note: The following two subjects: Communications and Ethics and Responsibilities, are required and
may come from accounting or business.

And regarding "type of credits" accepted this
    COURSE REQUIREMENTS
 Photocopies of transcripts or “Issued to Student” transcripts are not acceptable.
 Since Taxation can be accepted from a local community college, education earned at a regionally
accredited community college or two-year degree granting institution is acceptable except for those in
    auditing, attestation, and advanced accounting.
 Commercial CPA review courses are not acceptable.
 Upper-division courses mean courses usually taken at the junior or senior undergraduate level.
 Courses in auditing and advanced accounting must be taken either on the upper-division level (junior or
senior year) of an undergraduate program or on the graduate level. Taxation courses may be taken at a
community college. For further clarification, please visit NYSED’s website.
 Correspondence, CLEP credit, CPA Review courses and online courses are acceptable when an
applicant receives credit for the courses at a regionally accredited college or university. These courses
must appear on an official transcript.
 Pass/fail grades are acceptable in all subjects except accounting, when an applicant receives credit for
the courses at a regionally accredited college or university. These courses must appear on an official

What does this mean for you? If I add LSU courses to my MBA will it be enough and according to the Law to sit for CPA in NYS?
Thank you. You are really helping me.

Liberty U has a MS-Accounting. It supposes to meet the CPA 150 hour requirement. I just signed up for Accounting Ethics. It was $425/credit + $175 technology fee/course. Therefore, the 3 credits was $1510-Still a good bargain.
