The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) has an online accelerated MBA. However, I'm confused about whether it's a master's degree since it references it as an "accelerated MBA advanced certification."

The duration is six months, and the cost is $3,850.

They have other masters in business and computer science for $7,000. They indicated that degrees in healthcare and education would be coming soon.

Are they hiding something, or is it just an example of the officious Caribbean tendency to use many words when fewer would do?

As a former LEO, I was able to leverage my investigative skills.. lol :D These are my findings:
    • The accelerated MBA has no entry requirements listed, whereas the other master's do.
    • When you click "Enroll Now" on the accelerated MBA program page, the program is added to a shopping cart. Conversely, when you do the same on the other master's programs' pages, it takes you to an application form.
I assume that the accelerated MBA may be the Jamaican version of the U.S. mini/micro-MBA. But maybe someone here will contact UCC and provide a more conclusive answer.

"The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean’s (UCC) accelerated MBA advanced certification allows you to gain all of the knowledge and skills of a full MBA in a fraction of the time. Most students complete in just six months, but you have the flexibility to go at your own pace in this fully online, self-paced program."

This is not an MBA and UCC is being misleading and duplicitous to refer to it in this fashion.

They also say: "UCC meets the high standards in teaching and practice required for UK-based ASIC accreditation..."

UCC also appears be accredited by the University Council of Jamaica, which I believe is a legit Jamaican Government body. University Council of Jamaica also accredits a number of schools that are not Universities e.g. Police Colleges Tech. institutions, etc. )

And I agree. UCC shouldn't make this kind of statement. This is not a degree program.

Yes, UCJ is perfectly legit. I have no idea why they would also work with ASIC.

Effective sales techniques by ASIC, probably. Perhaps UCJ might like to know what their duly accredited school is up to, in this instance.

    Agreed.

I doubt that they don't. There's nothing inherently harmful about going through ASIC's process.

Sorry. I didn't mean ASIC. I was referring to UCC's deceptive statements about this non-MBA. That's what I think UCJ should consider.

In the description, it is said that you will learn to "make ethical decisions in complex business situations to lead organizations that operate with integrity.", so, yeah...

Hmm, this seems interesting enough as a 'mini-MBA'... I think the HAU MBA for $3K or WGU MBA which has ACBSP for slightly more would do as alternative options...

    Ooooooh. You're right, of course.

Maybe, but it isn't being SOLD that way. My take: The misleading statements make it look like a degree, which it isn't. That shouldn't fly. I'm out, even if they throw in a free micro-doctorate.

They throw in a micro-doctorate and I may go for the micro-MBA. ;)

Then you can be a micro-manager, and micro-manage every detail of tiny micro-projects - for a micro-salary. Do you find that appealing? :)

The micro-salary sounds very appealing. ;) JK!

I did read through their website and while I’m not the most intelligent person, the Accelerated MBA Advanced Cert is…different.

That's not surprising to me. Most of the D.C. area's Caribbean diaspora lives in suburban Maryland. And UCC is indisputably a real place. It's just a crappy name for a program.
