My family here, all naturalized citizens who came from former Soviet Union, the children and grand child all born in the US. Originally from Ukraine, when it was still Soviet Union.
The Texas land commissioner is donating 1,400 acres of land near McAllen for Donald's concentration camps.
Yes. People are going to freak out. That's part of "shock and awe" and intended to cow the rest of the populace. Look folks, this is exactly how it is done. Trump is trying to follow a well worn blueprint. Will he succeed? Maybe not. Kevin McCarthy recently said that our system of checks and balances will work to keep Trump contained. All of that is great until he resorts to systematic violence. He is creating the framework for exactly that under cover of the immigrant "roundup". But violence is hard to contain except with violence.
"Little Marco" doesn’t matter. Elon Musk will soon realize that he doesn’t matter either and will probably end up in a prison cell somewhere. Trump will create violence to give himself the excuse to impose control by violent means. If you can get out, you should get out while you can.
It appears that a big key to Trump's plan is to mash the military leadership enough to get "full control". That means that they will do whatever he says. Once that is accomplished then his dictatorship is secure. He will have his loyal "Nazi generals". He could simply ignore anything the courts or the congress do after that.
Private and other detention centers will lobby for gov money. Exodus will be from red to blue states, possibly from TX to states like CA that declare they will not cooperate with feds on this, LA voted last week a century city status. etc.
Yes, he plans to cull the military leadership of those he deems unfit. Judging by the circus of a cabinet he's assembling, he's not getting rid of people who are incompetent. He's getting rid of people who are disloyal to him. Our checks and balances are not full proof. They've only worked because presidents chose to follow Supreme Court rulings or laws passed by Congress (most of the time). The Supreme Court doesn't have the power to enforce anything. All the Senate can do is vote to convict. Who is going to enforce that conviction? The military would have to decide that it's not going to follow unlawful orders from the removed president.
I find it amusing that Governor Abbot used the term "deportation of violent criminals". He's using the politically correct lie, saying that they are only going to be deporting violent criminals.
I think Nosborne's guess that the odds are 50/50 that his quest for dictatorship succeeds is actually a pretty good guess. Although I really hope I'm wrong and the odds are a bit worse for Trump to succeed. I told my daughter not to worry that it would be okay. I hope that my attempt to reduce her worry was warranted? She can't really do anything about it anyway and she's very busy raising a family and going to med school.
Trump is making the same mistake Hitler did: surrounding himself with buffoons, sycophants, and incompetent loyalists. It's the Keystone Kops in brown shirts and armbands. It doesn't work.
Trump has two years, not a lot of time to establish total or near total control. Our best hope of survival is if the Congress starts challenging him immediately. It looks like the Senate might be. I hear no movement towards recess appointments and there's definite pushback on the Gaetz appointment.
I assume you say Trump has two years under the assumption that in the 2026 midterms chances are that the Democrats House will retake the House? While losing the House would make a dictatorship a bit harder, wouldn't the keys be taking over the military and the Department of Justice? He could threaten folks with investigations and arrest to help keep problem officials under control. The military could be used to crush any general public protests. I can see more problems trying to become a dictator if the 2028 election cycle was underway. So maybe three years instead of just two?
1. Norms, traditions, precedents, rules, etc.: gone 2. Laws--apply only to the extent they can actually be used to restrain Trump. 3. Outcomes--these people are not being hired because they're cronies and fawn over Trump. They're being hired to destroy their parts of government. Democrats are only now waking up to these realities--something Republicans have long understood. The only thing that will hold either party in check is the will of the American people. Good luck finding much of that.
The saddest thing about this are the "Fake Christians" who support this. Within the New Testament, which Christians read in continuity with the Hebrew Bible or “The Old Testament,” the most often cited passage dealing with welcoming the stranger is from Matthew 25: 31-40. “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” These "Christians" would be trying to come here too if they suffered the Poverty, violence and ilness seen in other parts of the world. The fake "Chrisitans" who back Trump have deluded themselves. They have turned Christianity into a religon of hate and greed. They are so concerned about the "baby in the womb" and abortion but when the child is born they then ignore them, want to cut programs that aid children and parents. From the Catholic priest "pedophile pandemic " to the Evangelicals support of Trump organized Religion has created a plague on Humanity. Proseperity Christians as Joel Osteen and frauds as Franklin Graham have enriched themselves. We mocked Muslims for their distortion of the Koran in Islam,. We now have perverted Christianity is the same way.
