Am I the only one who has noted that Orly has never posted on any topic connected to distance learning/education? It is, after all, one of the classic signs of a troll . . . go to a discussion board, ignore the main focus and set up camp in the Off-Topics forum. So just out of curiosity I did a surface level google search and was mildly amused to find that his /her name popped up in association with an old friend of ours, Dennis Ruhl. So Orly, please send my regards to Dennis the next time you're chatting.

'Orly Dunstan' was the name of a comic character in a soda-pop commercial a few years back. In it, there was a "blind taste-test" staged, with a competitor's brew. "Orly Dunstan" would consistently be the lone holdout and the commercial would end with "There seems to be some problem here, Orly..." or words to that effect. Yep. Could be.

Maybe Orly was right about the soda-pop. He certainly posts like a guy with a bad taste in his mouth. :(

I noticed the same thing about Icampy, who has posted a total of seven messages in three threads, none of which have anything to do with DL.

I've long been at the point where I disregard 99% of new posters, most of whom are too lazy to do their research and bring up tired questions, or who use DI to practice their poor English skills (whether or not English is their first or second language), or bring up three-year-old posts by writing, "Thanks for an informative post." (I'd like to think in the last example that they have posted a spam web link that was pulled by one of our moderators.)

As for Dennis, I haven't seen him since he posted on DLT several years ago. But that board is so dead that it has occurred to me that DLT is soooooooooo dead that some of them might be the new trolls we're seeing here.

Great post..I am one of the posters who is using DI to improve my English and writing skills. Anyway, do you have anything to contribute to accounting as a tool of control of the marginalized, and the Subaltern? Your ability to mankind is far superior than the guerrilla tactics that you have manifested in most of your post. Don’t get me wrong, I have admired your hit and run over the years. It does take some discipline.

I saw that too -- it was pretty weird and a bit disconcerting. A forum (not degree-related) post mentioning "Orly Dunstan" wasn't made under Dennis' name - or "Orly's" - but Google showed it as made by "Dennis Ruhl." How does that happen? Is Google the new NSA? Will my real name show up on Google from my DI posts - or will I suddenly be Steve Levicoff? :)

PS. Dennis is a wise man. Ten years ago, he told me in another forum that if I intended to continue posting in degree fora, I'd better develop a thicker skin. Boy, was he right!

The most popular threads, along with most new posts in general, have nothing to do with DL. If I only reply to a few, it makes sense that my posts line up that way. Besides, most DL posts have nothing but a link in the OP from kizmet and maybe 1 post.

This is a political forum, with 10 members that talk about DL and accreditation. Hence why I post twice a year.

Try again old holier-than-thou original member. Thanks for stalking, and thanks for your non-DL post, bitching about non-DL posts.

Dennis was an asshole who got into bed with a bunch of bigger assholes. If you needed to develop a thicker skin it was largely due to the behaviors of his associates.

Trolls are generally tolerated but get a shorter leash. Try not to live at the end of yours.

So you're trying to outdo him?

Dennis outdid himself years ago by, amongst other things, making personal attacks.

I'm not so sure. I've been called so many things by so many people. The guy who once falsely called me a "millist" (on another forum) was a one-time Moderator here, who left this forum oh-so-many years ago. Not a disciple of Dennis, for sure. And I doubt the guy who called me "a nutless Canadian retard etc." (also on another forum) had ever heard of Dennis - it was a bit after Dennis' edu-forum days. I can think of quite a few times when the advice to develop a thicker skin was useful. Just sayin' ... Dennis' advice proved sound - and I still often apply it, to deal with people who have probably had little or nothing to do with Dennis. It serves me well.

BTW - Richard Nixon once called Pierre Trudeau (then Prime Minister of Canada) an a**hole. Trudeau's reply, when he found out: "I've been called worse names by better people."
