Not for me, for my little sister, who's tired of having the highest IQ in the factory. She's finally seeing the light and wants to pursue a more cerebral career. So naturally, I told her I'd post here and find out if what she wants exists. If it just has to be a general studies program that allows her to have a heavy concentration in her desired discipline given all the criteria, then that'll just have to do.

Anything close to her wish list out there?

    Thanks,

    LF

If she's stuck on Anthropology (a great field of study, in my opinion) then she's in a bit of trouble. I've got COSC, TESC and then the closest I can come is Athabasca. After that we go to Saskatchewan, Edith Cowan and then Southern Queensland.
Sociology is a bit better with Florida State, Kansas State, UMUC, U of Pittsburg, Upper Iowa U and Washington State U on the list before you go on that long flight across the water.

(my list is rather dated now and I apologise for any citations that are no longer current)

Not exactly RA, but UNISA does have an anthro program.

Thanks, Jack, is that Pittsburg as in Pittsburg State in Kansas? That's just down the road, less than an hour.

BTW: Fun to spit back and forth on the other thread, you need to head over there and slap me back or something.

I was referring to the University of Pittsburgh that's in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. However, I went to that website and couldn't find the program listed anymore so it seems that I will have to retract that one from the list.

    My daughter is in anthropology

So I will give you the benefit of our research into those programs. Very few schools have a REAL anthropology program. By real I mean the ones with the hard science part of it instead of one that is heavy in the socio-cultural aspect of it. In Illinois there were basically 6 schools with one and they were all large state or private school as the programs are expensive relative to the number of students pursuing the degree program.

This probably is why there are very few anthro programs out there available by DL. You will probably have better luck in the UK or Canada where anthropology is more widely taught. Here is some I found:

    http://www.lamp.ac.uk/archanth/distance/undergrd/unindex.htm

    http://www.athabascau.ca/html/programs/b_arts/anth.htm

Leicester has a masters program in Archaeology.

I think Athabasca Univ. might be her best choice. They've recently attained RA status (through Middle States) and the courses are relatively inexpensive (about $750/course).

    All:

I really appreciate (on behalf of my sister) all of the help and advice, you all have given me some reasonable options to suggest to her.

    Thanks!
