You would think a school district would conduct a thorough background check for such a high profile position……

 

If you're going to lie, at least lie about graduating from a good school.

I think I read that 40-something percent of employers still aren't verifying education.

 

Probably thought that a claim to a good school would be checked, whereas a claim to an average school would skate by.

But I am floored that given the position, they didn't require transcripts at the time of hire.

 

Since I retired from the military in 1996, I've held 9 jobs. Only one (a university) asked for transcripts. Another university with whom I've contracted for years has never asked for them. (They did long before that when I was an adjunct, though.)

 

Maybe it's different because I work in public safety, but every job I have ever applied to since high school required not only academic transcripts, but copies of all professional licenses and certifications at the time of application.

 

Capella is below average. She could have chosen any state university. But, either way, she eventually got fired.

Most of my government jobs have asked for transcripts, but employers can also check the National Student Clearinghouse. Probably because it's a small district they didn't have good HR operations.

 

Same here, every job to which I’ve applied since I earned my first degree (mostly higher education teaching) has asked for official transcripts, and the process didn’t move forward until they were received and reviewed.

Especially now with electronic transcripts from verified sources, it blows my mind that these kinds of things still go on.

 

I will never understand lying, or misrepresenting, your educational credentials. Make it make sense for me.

 

Ever dreamed of being cool without actually being it? Ladies and Gentlemen, I present you a great concept: Just lie. No one gives a damn about truth anyway. So, just lie without remorse. Everyone does, your ex-President does, the Guy who tries to get the job that is rightfully yours sure as heck does, too and if someone is still honest in this dog-eat-dog-eat-bird-eat-cat-world, well, not your problem!!

So, why not exaggerating a little your credentials? The odds of getting caught are next to nil and the world deserves to be lied to. You just gave them what they asked for, and they will not be able to tell the difference anyway!!!

 

I am 56 and have never been asked for transcripts with the exception of when I did some adjunct work for UDC (University of the District of Columbia). They required transcripts, copies of certifications, etc.

 

I've never had a company ask me for transcripts. I HAVE had my degree verified through a background check though.

 

I bet a lot of people don't know that their education was verified by searching National Student Clearinghouse, contacting the college, or some other means. People tend to assume that, if their transcripts weren't requested, then their education wasn't verified. I've heard from tech HR specialists that they verify education and certifications electronically. For example, you can verify CompTIA certifications online without requesting copies of the certifications.
