Have you considered Illinois Urbana-Champlain's MBA for $20k or MSM for $10k? It's not as prestigious as some of the names JoshD mentioned, but it's probably the most prestigious you'll find within that price range.

    ---

Other than that, I'd also consider any highly regarded public schools in your own state that offer online MBAs. In-state tuition + employer reimbursement could go a long way to fitting into your budget.

    ---

Lastly, I'd like to just say that I'm not trying to steer you away from Strayer, just laying out some options. I love options ☺️

If you're who I think you are from the other forum, and you really want an MBA, I repeat what another poster said over there: try HAU. If you can get in and get it for $3k, it's going to be just as good (maybe even better) than some of the other options you've been exploring.

Having discovered the world of inexpensive education, I think that you've got some serious FOMO going on. Prestigious and ranked is good, but any properly accredited MBA is going to be better than no MBA at all. With all of your indecision, you're heading down the path of no MBA. I'm pretty sure that's not what you want.

Unless you're getting the MBA from a top business school, you should really consider whether or not it's going to help you. Combined with a lot of experience, sometimes it can be a "box check" for a promotion at work. But if you're looking for a job with no or limited experience, I would question the utility. I've been at companies where the EA had an MBA from an unranked school. LOTS of people have MBAs these days.

Agreed. More education can be helpful once you have a specific goal in mind that can be reached with the education desired, but if you're looking to gain skills in order to move into a new career, a general degree like an MBA is probably not the best option when compared with more targeted skill-building.

A year of accounting coursework (which is what I'd compare my MBA Accounting coursework to, as someone who also did 3 semesters of Accounting in undergrad) is not going to make you competitive for an Accountant position. The same is true of the HR, Finance, Business Law, etc. courses. Picking a more specific area of business like Payroll, Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable, Financial/Investment Analysis, Benefits Administration, Talent Management, etc and training in that area is likely more effective.

So what I am kinda grabbing from everyone is…..
If I want a “free” check the box MBA - I need to find a way to get that $3000 HUA MBA and get the employer reimbursement.
If I want to move in to HR, Accounting, Data, or something like that, I need to go for the Master’s in that subject and pay some $$ toward it.

A UMPI Bachelor's might be enough to jump-start you off into another better-paying field while you go for your Master's. But, yeah, that's essentially it.

@Vicki , you might want to see what "assistance/reimbursement" you get from the side gig and work. I mean if you can get X credits at one school and transfer them to another school for cheap, that would work as well. It won't really matter as long as you're using this for furthering your learning opportunities. BTW, are you on DF as Vle045?

Call Dean Martin at HAU (Hellenic American University) and ask if still available, if so apply and enjoy!

Also, if you're feeling "not ready" to tackle an MBA yet: just go. You're never going to feel ready. There's always going to be some doubt in the back of your mind. Just go.

Even if you somehow manage to flunk out of HAU (which I doubt), it's only $3k. Compared to other degrees, that's small change. You're not going to find a better, cheaper, way to test your readiness for an MBA.

But I don't think you're going to flunk out. I think you've got this. You just need a tiny push to get going. So go.

Yup, if you want an MBA for resume check-mark, then HAU would do the job. If you want a Global ranking MBA, Boston University. And if you are still in your 20s, and want networking and potential executive at fortune 500 companies, then go for a top MBA at a brick-and-mortar campus (Harvard Business Schoo, HEC Paris, Wharton Business School, LBS, Oxford, Cambridge, etc.)

Sure! Schools EVERYONE in their 20s should be able to afford! Very practical suggestion - just quit your job and off you go... :(

Not even just the afford part but the admissions part. Without a GMAT of 730+ and a GPA of 3.6+, you have to have OUTSTANDING work experience to even bs considered for HBS, Wharton, Stanford GSB, etc. With an acceptance rate of about 20%, it is not a feasible option for many.

True but I think it's a good thing to be open to the possibility for those people who meet the criteria.

Definitely a feasible option for those who want to do such. My post was more so highlighting there is more to it than just affordability:

I'd never heard of Jack Welch before this thread (although I did know of Strayer). But NOW, Google ads won't ever let me forget it. The Jack Welch MBA has overtaken no less than 50% of all the ads I see both on webpages and in all the ad-supported apps I use. :emoji_alien: It's by far the most aggressively I've ever been targeted for a single product, and it all started here in this thread :emoji_joy:

Maybe it's increased huzzah to capitalize on the late Mr. Welch's fame, since he died in 2020. Jack Welch was President and CEO of General Electric for 20 years, 1981-2001. Besides his business acumen, he had considerable writing chops and his works were (and still are) popular.

Interesting fact about Mr. Welch, from the ol' Interweb:
"When Welch retired from GE, he received a severance payment of $417 million, the largest such payment in business history up to that point." Wow! Maniac, do you think your employer will match that, when you retire? Mine sure didn't! :)

No severence from my employer. Just a lump payment of unused vacation time. So, I'll be either all work and no play, or all play and no pay.
