It appears so, but wouldn't they hurt their voters? Unlike in the past, the GOP voter base is also relying on Medicaid, increasingly.
Any way, I'm more educated on the subject today and also know states where 50% of Medicaid is coming from Federal gov, so it will hurt for sure.
Even if 50% of 880 bill, will be cut, it will hurt.

Actually statistics are that huge cuts to Medicare would hurt rural voters more. So it would hurt Republicans even more than Democrats.

Won't change their minds, though. I can't see how the national debt can be managed without adjustments to Medicare and Social Security whether we like it or not.

    I do.

    Raise taxes.

As a function of GDP, we are about 50th in the world in per capita government spending. But we are only about 110th in the world in taxation when compared to per capita GDP.

We don't have a spending problem. We have a revenue problem.

One way is to return to a liberal immigration policy. Since today's pensioners are paid for by today's workers, the more workers you have, the more pensioners you can support.

Agreed. But that would mean facing our own racism. We haven't done very well with that since the 17th century.
