    Where was he off-topic?

If he had made negative comments about NCU would you still have considered his comments as off-topic and out of the woodwork?

I almost forgot to mention that if you want to get the real dirt on NCU, then you'll have to register at the NCU Yahoo student group; but please don't bother to apply unless you are a NCU student. ;)

Non-NCU students aren't allowed access.

Please cite where you found NCU was "struggling."

It is my understanding that Touro University-International is for sale. It is also my understanding that the IACBE is not recognized by either CHEA or the Department of Education. I thought unauthorized accrediting agencies are frowned upon here.

[Accrediting organizations that are “recognized” have been reviewed for quality by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the United States Department of Education (USDE).]

    http://www.chea.org/public_info/index.asp#what

AACSB and ACBSP are both recognized. IACBE is not. Why did TUI choose an unauthorized accreditor?

    http://www.chea.org/pdf/CHEA_USDE_AllAccred.pdf

Please correct anything above that is incorrect.

"Off topic," in the case of this thread, would be a comment regarding something other than NCU, right?

Me Again was posting his concerns when he enrolled into NCU (I think that's pretty relevant to the topic in question).

Also, TowardsMBA posted that this discussion board helped him decide on NCU. So, I don't think he posted because he was told to by NCU.

When you have one fourth of the market and are losing market share every year, I say you are "struggling" to keep up. When you are glutted with doctoral students but have very few students in your other programs, you could be "struggling" to get control of future enrollments and cash flows. When you started 2 years before your nearest competitor and copied most of your curriculum from another unaccredited school, but your nearest competitor has completely blown past you by any metric, I say you are "struggling". When your nearest competitor prominently displays its list of well-published faculty, but you don't list yours, I say you are "struggling". Of course, these are my opinions and you are free to draw your own conclusions.

I spoke to a FSU professor that said a Harvard PhD (in finance) was just hired out of school for $120K

    My criteria was;
    1) there should not be residency requirement ( in part or whole)
    2) Should be Regionally Accred.
    3) Should Either have AACSB or ACBSP acc. (either candidate or confirm )
    4) Should be affordable and flexible.
    5) Rolling Admission

    My choice was between
California State Univ (DH) ( no response from them/ No Rollingf adm)
Davenport University ( no response from them No rolling adm)
University of Pheonix ( expensive )
    Florida SU (expensive)

    IACBE "accreditation":

    http://www.acbsp.org/download.php?sid=763.

If NCU ever gets that desperate that it claims accredition from an unrecognized agency that grants accredition based on the payment of a fee then I will reconsider my choice!

    What are you talking about?

College profs earn at most $82k in Canada and in many fields there is an unwritten rule that you need at least a masters (many want Ph.D) and soon it'll be Ph.D only and its higher workload then university (do you own marking always and more course preps/hours) but you don't have to publish (unless you want to be pushed out!).

Now university profs are making over $100k at many schools. In fact I pulled the numbers from the Ontario 100k public sector list, my former prof's earned a 6% average increase in pay (not bad when you only have 15 credit hours to teach in a year, and most are the same course!).

That being said a distance Ph.D will probably not get you a teaching job at a canadian university or even a polytechnic however I know a number of College profs with distance degrees (infact since many only have bachelors there is a rush to get at least a masters online).

For me It was a choice:
    1) forgo 8-12 months of earnings and pay $6k for a Masters full time (M.Acc was my choice)
    2) take a canadian online Masters, Laurentian has an MBA for $7k+ that is only 5 courses while Athabascas MBA would require a mortgage
    3) go with a DETC from the US

Trust the latter doesn't hold well with getting a teaching job but it does for those trying to keeping one!

Part of that is probably Harvard, but a big part of that is Finance. A friend of mine who had planned to do stay with Economics is doing a Finance PhD because he wants to capitalize on the shortage.

A friend of mine in the UF MBA program got hired by a major bank with a base salary of 90k and a 15k signing bonus. She has no work experience other than some paralegal work at her parents' business. She wasn't recruited, she applied online through their website.

(AAGGGHH, why did I come back to school for a PhD???)

the 100K jobs in University teaching normally require years of publishing and at least a position at the Full professor level at Engineering or Business Faculties. Assistant professors normally start at 60K. Bear in mind that here you are competing with Canadians that got a PhD from top US schools, at my University we have Harvard and Wharton PhDs so a PhD from NCU might not even hold a remote chance. I work with people with PhDs from local Universities that have waited for an assistant professorship position for years that normally pays 60K to start and making 40K as post docs while waiting for them.

Believe me, the 80K a year at the community college are not so bad when those extra 20K might cost you tears and years of waiting.

Ok, the 80k at college is based on a min of 4 years teaching, a ton of education and a hell of a resume.

As for Universities, yes humanities are worse off but Biz/Engineering school that have a masters have "associate or assistants at over 100k" within Ontario.

Understood. I'll keep my eyes open for some options for you, so if it makes sense to switch to another program, you can. I noticed today that Fort Hays State University's 37 semester credit hour MBA at $400 per hour is just under $15,000 total. Plus, they are a candidate for AACSB. However, there are no rolling admissions and a GMAT is required. You may want to think about taking the GMAT to get into a more prestigious and less expensive MBA. Send me a private message if I can be of help.

    Friend,

Your thinking seems a bit muddled at this point. Instead of rationalizing a suboptimal choice by rejecting information that doesn't support your views and searching for information that reinforces your decision, you should keep your eyes open. In sum, listen to those of us who aren't being paid to pump your head full of sales puddin'...

Just as a reminder, Northcentral has yet to achieve programmatic accreditation from any accrediting entity. Promises may show intent, but nothing more than intent.

I'm not saying that Northcentral is a bad choice for you, but you may be able to find more for your money. Wouldn't that be good for you? As Stephen Covey says (from memory), "Sometimes good is the enemy of the best."

Please let me know if I can be of help.
