As the coworker mentioned previously... I bought it with PayPal and smirk daily. L. Ron Hubbard said it best (paraphrased) start a cult and cash in on the marks while avoiding the IRS.

Indeed - and a malevolent conspirator, as I see it. If the following article were fictional, it would be among the greatest posts of our "Conspiracy Theories" thread.

Sadly, it is fact-based - and an interesting read on the lengths to which Hubbard's cabal would go - and how low they would stoop, in attempts to expunge adverse info on their Dear Leader.

Perhaps, if Hubbard were alive today, he would call the article "fake news." If the Snow White operatives could be convened today, perhaps they could be commissioned to seize and secure any trace of the fabled Russian "Pee-Pee Tape."

    IF it exists. :)

While this is the biggest criminal conspiracy they got caught at, Operation Freakout is actually more despicable.

I admire US's unshakeable commitment to the First Amendment. It's so strong a sadistic criminal ring can use it to hide behind, for decades. I wonder why the real Mafia couldn't just organize as a "Church"; maybe that's because it was not unilaterally ruled by one perfect sociopath.

Now, now, you're not giving Hubbard enough credit. He had his own vocabulary invented to deal with any threats; terms like "suppressive" and "fair game". "Fake news" forced meme is a lame reinvention.

Parallels continue. Trump has had a legitimate entertainment career, with ghostwritten books and "The Apprentice". So did Hubbard, who was a very prolific sci-fi author and an occasional screenwright. I'd say Trump's a much better entertainer, while L. Ron parlayed his skills into a spectacularly successful career as a swindler and criminal mastermind. In process making one of his novels into a widely-panned film (Battlefield Earth).

In the old days - the Church often was. Look at some of the long-dead Popes - Borgias et al.

Indeed it is. What else would you expect from a lame reinventor?
I never watched him on TV, but I do like Alec Baldwin as Trump! In other forms of entertainment, I found it hard to believe that this Wharton-trained businessman ran not one, but THREE casinos so badly they went into bankruptcy. If even the dullest of gangsters can usually profit hugely from that business, why couldn't Trump, who has a good business education? (Taj Mahal, Castle Hotel & Casino, Trump Plaza Casino - all in Atlantic City, NJ.)

If you can't succeed in a moderately dirty business like gambling, how do you expect to run a thoroughly corrupt, filthy business like government? Anyway, here's to seven more years of Pres. Alec Baldwin.

Right. It took me a long time to realize that "Capo di tutti capi" - "boss of all bosses" was not a real Mafia title. It's pretty well completely a media fabrication - fully explained here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capo_dei_capi
