Your country and mine would have done well to examine Russia's example. They lost interest after 17 years in Afghanistan, prior to our experience. There are some fights you just can't win -- or won't stay won.

    While that's surely a factor, I also think it's a too-simple answer to a complex question.

Cooler heads may prevail. Apparently the MAGA Truckers for Jesus, White Supremacy, and Guns have decided that Trump's call to mass on the Texas border is some sort of entrapment scheme so they're largely leaving it alone. Meanwhile even Governor Stupid seems to be rethinking the dangers of defying the Supreme Court.

I'm starting to detect a certain boredom with the whole MAGA thing. You can't keep people stirred up indefinitely. I might be wrong.

Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent a stark message to sanctuary cities on Monday, vowing his state's transportation of migrants to their areas would continue until the federal government takes action on the worsening border crisis.

"Texas has transported over 102,000 migrants to sanctuary cities. Overwhelmed Texas border towns should not bear the brunt of Biden’s open border policies. Our transportation mission will continue until Biden secures the border," Abbott wrote in a post on X.

    Balancing

Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) criticized Republicans’ comments on the border in response to remarks by Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX) on the House floor as the chamber debated the rules for immigration policy bills Tuesday.

“Let me set a couple of things straight: The border is not open.".............

"Stop claiming the border is open. It is not. Do we have a problem at the border? Absolutely. Absolutely, we do. But listening to the gentleman who has no solutions, I mean, I think he thinks this is Beetlejuice — if you say ‘crisis’ three times, the problem goes away,” McGovern added, referring to Burgess’ comments. “No, you got to take some action. You got to work to try to address the issue. Democrats and President Biden want to find real comprehensive solutions to fix it. What we need is Republicans to stop playing political games.”"

Wait a second... I saw that movie, and if you say "Beetlejuice" three times then the problem arrives, not goes away. o_O

Don't overlook the fact that the House GOP lives in topsy-turvy land.
