Absolutely correct. But that credit for something you already know has a tinge of Excelsior College/Western Govenors U to it.

But don't CLEP, DANTES, ECE, etc... exams do just the same? Albeit, perhaps at a different level - but prior learning assessment none-the-less.

For that matter, aren't end of course final exams nothing more than an assessment of recent prior learning?

In less than two hours, I have run through over 75% of the Copy Editor/Proofreader and over 50% of the Technical Writer certs.

Whether it has any academic or employment value at all; it's fun!:D

Yeah, just like the CLEP and DANTES tests.

By the way, there is a pic of the Rutgers certificates on the website. They don't look like degrees or anything, but they don't look bad, and they DO say Rutgers on them. I don't need CEU's or anything like that, but I think it will make a nice addition to my resume. It will certainly look more impressive than my degree from Penn Foster Career School, if I ever manage to finish that thing.

How did you find out if you passed? I took one and got a screen which said " Buy Now" but didn't say if I passed.

    It's a good point.

If the Rutgers cert is low cost it sounds like a deal to get such a name on a resume.

According to the fine print you only view the grade AFTER you purchase the test. I am not sure whether the grade is based on the test you just completed or the test you might take after the purchase.

The score is based on the test you have taken. I took and paid for an IT Skills test. It is very similar to the brainbench process. However, unlike brainbench, you print out your own certifications even after purchase. Also I did not get a $25 price even though I ordered right after taking the test. I am not sure what you do to get the 50% off.

  9. These are cool - I just took and passed 3 towards their IT Management Professional certification in the past hour (although I had to take Customer Requirements Analysis twice ;) )

    Cheers,

Same one I"m trying Mark, actually that Job Role and the Information Systems Technology Manager Job Role have the same requirements.

Since it took me to a purchase page I assumed I passed.

From the start this looked like a purchased knock off of brainbench, not that I wouldn’t mind having Rutgers on my Resume. In fact to try out the process I did purchase a test. One of the first tips of this being purchased other than it’s look and feel is the “CE Technologies Inc.” at the bottom of the login page. So I decided hey, why not see who else purchased this. So far I’m only up to this one addition.

Sacramento State University, College of Continuing Education

Sacramento seems to offer the same exact tests, and has the same website layout for the ‘skill center’

How did you know you had to take it twice? Did you go to the purchase page and then redirect to retest or did you simply find out you didn't pass immediately?

What do the certificates look like?

Well, it told me the score (it was under 70%) and it gave me the option to retest.

I then took a couple of minutes to Google a few items that I wasn't sure of and retested - and it then took me to the "purchase" page so I assume on my second try I was at or over 70%.

These tests are like giving drugs to a junkie...after I take my midterm Accounting exam I'll go back and take a few more :)

    Cheers,
    Mark

  16. I noticed that too...

Thanks! So, I assume I passed then since it took me to the purchase page. I may go ahead and purchase it.

I completed the Interpersonal Communication in the Workplace test. I then printed out the transcript showing I passed with a score of 71% Not bad, I was hardly paying attention. The cost was $35.00

I guess you don't get an actual certificate until you pass all of the required exams.

I must admit, I got overly excited and thought you got a certificate after each test. Maybe I will take these tests little by little until I can actually obtain the cert. Still, not a bad deal at all.

    take care,

    Abner

I'm glad so many of you guys like it. Print your own certificate???....oh well.

I better not touch these, I'll probably get hooked.

I read over the page quite a bit -- if you get the "buy now" you did indeed pass the test.

I got addicted :) I've been sitting here playing with this since about 8:30 tonight. WHEEEEE!

So here's what I did tonight:

Spelling and Vocabulary -- easy enough. Your typical sort of spelling/vocab test. Not as easy as you might think.

Workplace Computer Skills -- pretty basic, entry level stuff for the most part.

MS Word -- leans a bit on keyboard shortcuts where I'm inclined to use the menus more often. Not too hard.

Interpersonal Communication -- this is textbook stuff here, you need some background to know the buzz-words.

Business Communication -- another with buzz-words and textbook concepts.

Editing and Proofreading -- WOW! much harder than I expected. Didn't make it on the first try and had to break out the grammar book to brush up on them em-dashes and en-dashes and semicolons after a dependent clause rules. Easy to make simple mistakes on this one.

All seven = the Copyeditor/Proofreader certificate at the introductory cost of only $195 USD

There does seem to be some overlap in job role requirements, which is how I migrated from technical writing to editing.
