Ah, I never said that. Please don't put words in my mouth.

    Have a good weekend BobbyJim!

  2. Ummmm...I believe that was on the news and maybe it was because they stated it. Though the movie has been out for a year it was only recently translated (part of it) to Arabic and then "disturbed". If I was a betting man I would venture to say that it was purposely don't by some extremist group.

  3. I hate to be the one with the news flash but "Free speech ISN'T completely free". You can say whatever you want but that doesn't stop someone from "hitting" you in the mouth for it. While I respect this mans ability to create the movie. It's pretty dumb. I just recently watched it. First off, to "cost" 5 million...it's POOR quality. That's besides the point though. I seriously doubt it was meant to educate.

It was clearly meant to be offensive (my personal opinion). While I don't hold myself out to be an expert in the Muslim faith. I don't have a working knowledge of the subject matter. I also have probably more Muslims friends then the average American Christian. I would venture to say that a lot Christians would be deeply offended if Jesus was portrayed in a similar manner.

My only issue is the backlash. I can/will not condone the violence that this film has caused. Nor do I think the film is the sole factor in the current issues that have brought things to a boiling point but "C'MON ON!!!" This combined with the burning of the Quran (a couple of times), etc...just gives them (extremist) a reason to feel like they have a purpose.

This is off the subject, but this "Christian" was convicted of fraud, parole violations, etc. Not very christian like.

Great points. I just can't believe it cost 5million to make that junky film, like you said, very poor quality.

Off the subject. The reminds of when that crazy person Michelle Bachman accused Hilary Clinton of being involved with the Muslim Brotherhood and the problems that created. Oh lord!

  6. Yeah he definitely has a few issues lol.

  7. I thought she was accused an aide of Hilary Clinton. I think it was the same woman that's married to a Congressman or something. That was pretty ugly for a while. We (a fair amount) of Americans throw the word "Muslim" and most associations with the faith around like it's a curse word.

Morning peacfulchaos2001. Here is a quote from the Washington Post:

"Michele Bachmann and four other conservative members of Congress are accusing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's longtime aide, Huma Abedin, of possible ties to Muslim extremists. Senator John McCain says the accusations “have no logic” and “need to stop.”

    Article:

Rep. Michele Bachmann’s Muslim Brotherhood claims draw fierce fire - The Washington Post

When nutbags like Bachman and her other extremist buddies make false accusations like this, it endagers not only the people involved, but our nation as well. I have to admire Senator McCain for having the decency and fortitude to condemn these types of slanderous accusations.

Anyway, after Bachman made these accusations, our Secretary of State Hilary Clinton had her car pelted by tomatoes and other items. The anti-muslim crowd she was driving through had signs that said "Clinton is with the Muslim Brotherhood" while yelling and screaming her name (and parroting most of the terms Bachman loves to use). Now, many out there STILL believe the US government is involved with the Muslim Brotherhood thanks to wackos like Michelle Bachman.

    Have a good weekend!!!

  9. This is just so amusing to me. This might sound a little crazy but stuff like that is very similar to what they do over here in Afghanistan. For example, members of the Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police accuse (it's hard to tell the truth) each other of being members of the Taliban. You would think that we would have gotten far along enough to NOT be repeating the same things as some do in a war torn country.

The idea that Huma Abedin is an Islamist seems exceptionally unlikely to me considering that she married a Jew.

Then why would you say “This dipstick should be thrown into the crowd of protestors”?

OK, a crappy youtube video is mentioned as a possible cause in media reports, but does anyone actually believe that is the sole source of current anger and anti-American sentiment in the mid-east?

Posters might want to read this analysis about general ‘button pushing’ for internal mid-eastern political purposes.
"If Americans are going to understand what’s going on and process it effectively, the first thing we’ve got to realize is that this isn’t all about us. The riots in Cairo are basically part of a local power struggle. Radical Salafists are in a power struggle with the Muslim Brotherhood; attacking the US embassy forces President Morsi (as the radical strategists presumably expected) to side with the US, however slowly or reluctantly. That’s a win for the radicals, who want to tar the Muslim Brotherhood as soft appeasers who side with the Americans against their own outraged people."

Also, do you actually believe that general comments like the following don’t have any effect on agitation and political violence in general? (This is just a random citation – not meant to be specific to this recent specific UN ambassador killing. I’m pretty sure a person can come up with many similar citations in a few minutes of searching the internet.)
“Speaking on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Zawahri criticized Muslim governments in the Middle East and in Asia for failing to pursue the cause of political Islam.”

Having just sprinted through this thread I'd just like to say that I agree with Steve.

  15. For the record, I'm over hear as a civilian on this go round. In theory, much safer. Thanks for caring though.

  16. Is the video the SOLE cause of the recent violence...absolutely not. As I mentioned earlier I don't believe it stands alone. However, it's carrying some serious weight right now. Realistically, it's effectively propaganda. Someone (chances are some extremist group) "rediscovered" the video and purposely translated it over with the intent to distribute it...with the assumption that it would enrage a large body of Muslims. BINGO, mission accomplished. That's one of the oldest tricks in the book. So yes, I am inclined to believe that it is a major contributing factor simply because nations/leaders have used similar tactics like this (in war) before.

You have to look more on the global effect. Sydney, Australia just had an incident and once again it was noted that the protesters made reference to the video. Disclaimer, this is my two cent...There will be more to come of this before things finally get to settle down. Whoever translated this was concerned not only about the Middle East. Their focus was more on the global aspect.

Is he Egyptian or American? If he is not an American citizen he may be deported.

I can see why he is anti-Muslin since Coptic churches are desecrated and its members killed in Egypt by radical Muslims.

  19. He's an American citizen that follows the "Egyptian Coptic" (I think I phrased that correctly) faith.

I think that has a large part to do with it.
