DL in China

    I've seen a couple of documentaries suggesting that China is also plagued by something we in the West know all too well: the existence of some fly-by-night, substandard private "career colleges." They target students who have completed high school, but with marks insufficient get into State schools. They average fee was said to be around the equivalent of $3,000 a year. That's a lot more in China than it is here! I'm not suggesting all - or even a large number of private career colleges are substandard or fly-by-night; that's not true - in China or anywhere else, but there are some bad apples everywhere, it seems. In general, I'd say

    (1) They're almost always a very expensive alternative
    (2) Job prospects aren't always what the student expects, or (in many places) is told to expect.
    (3) In many places (including China, according to what I've watched) it's not unheard of for such a school to suddenly close, leaving students high and dry. Now where have we seen that before? :smile:
