Here at the community college where I work, instructors must have a master's degree or higher in any area, PLUS 18 graduate hours of courses in the discipline they want to teach. Therefore, it really doesn't matter whether it's an MA, MS, MBA, MEd, MLA, MLS, ALM or other; the thing that matters is having the 18 graduate hours. I have an MEd, but I have considered just taking 18 additional graduate hours in poli sci or econ so that I can teach government or economics here on campus.

    Hi
Try this -but not really a true DL option, it's a great University nevertheless and I would love to do this if only I had the time and $! Good Luck :)

Sorry, you are correct in that I should've clarified. I am a political/public relations consultant by trade so I was referring to the political/government industries. Such as they are.

The point I was getting at is as opposed to the GW degree, having the VaTech degree on your resume doesn't scream "DL".

    Sorry about that.

There's where Im looking at doing my MA in International Relations. I've read nothing but good things about them. I was trying to decide between them and Norwich, and Webster won out.

The Virginia Tech program is very expensive for out of state students. Over $50k for the degree.

I'm afraid that none of the suggested schools except GWU have sufficient name recognition. GWU is too expensive. I was hoping for a major state university.

So you don't regard Virginia Tech -- which has an online MA in Political Science -- as a "major state university" ?

US News ranks it as #28 among state universities nationwide. It's tied with Iowa and Michigan State, and just ahead of Alabama and Indiana. Many people would have no problem accepting all of these schools as "major state universities".

If Virginia Tech isn't a "major state university", then maybe Nebraska isn't either. The same US News ranking puts Nebraska at only #46 among state universities, so even lower.

    Nebraska

Thanks. Not cheap though at $1,671.00 per 3 unit course (12 courses for a non-thesis MA) Non-resident.

Note they also have online EdD (or PhD in education) and LLM. The LLM is $5,196.00 per course (8 courses for the degree)!

I see what you're saying. But it seems that if you want a top ranked school that offers a fully online program with major name recognition and a big brick & mortar presence, you will be paying bigger bucks. Schools like VT and U of Nebraska are top ranked, well known and respected, offer what you want fully online, and have a big campus presence. But, they do cost more. If you want the cheaper route, you will likely have to be a little less stringent on your criteria.

    Virginia Tech

I'm surprised the US News ranks Virginia Tech that high and I appreciate you call this to my attention. Still, I think Virgina Tech has little name recognition except for it's recent unfortunate shooting. Places like Iowa, Nebraska and Michigan State have instant recognition that counts for much in the market.
