It must be great to live in a world where you just make shit up. Could you provide the source of information that says this list was acquired through “the public information act”.

John Bear: Sure. In response to my request, I got an email from Mr. Jack Zurlini, Assistant Attorney General for the State of Washington, saying, "To obtain a copy of the list, make your request to my office, citing the Freedom of Information Act." Mr. Zurlini can be reached at: [email protected]

Just wondering why you would request the list when it is already available.

I wondered about that too. Contrary to what you might read on Degreeinfo, law enforcement agencies aren't always required to disclose all the information in their possession. For example, when I used to work for a California district attorney's office, we sometimes had copies of people's tax returns, print-outs of activity on their social security numbers, images of their drivers' licences, their arrest records, vehicular and criminal histories, and endless accounts of things that people had told us about various individuals, some of it true and some not. We were under very strict rules about revealing any of that investigative material to anyone outside our office. If we had done so, it would have resulted in our termination and quite possibly in criminal prosecution.

I think that regarding FOIA requests (something that I never personally dealt with) the governing consideration is whether or not release of particular information would constitute an unreasonable intrusion into somebody's privacy. Often the information that law enforcement agencies provide to the media has certain details redacted for that reason.

Apparently the authorities in Spokane originally hesitated to release the list, probably for this very reason. Then they turned around and made it available. I don't know the circumstances of that reversal and am curious to know more about it.

In my layman's opinion, releasing the list might well be an unreasonable violation of the privacy of at least some of the people listed. Anyone suffering damages as a result of the list being made public might just conceivably have cause for legal action. I'm not sure about that and they would have to consult with an attorney.

John: Because I didn't have it.

These people are victims and should not be judged by the elitist who demand people attend their institutions for their own lively hood. Shameful!

Have any of these institutions judged them? The only condemnation I have observed is coming from people who have actually had to work for their degrees.

"Wow, talk about a blast from the past . . .

Old-timers on the board will recognize Leland's name from the old AED (alt.education.distance) Usenet group, where he was one of the more fun degree mill proponents to hang out with us. To this day, no one has ever figured out who Leland is (it's not his real name), but he was a funny guy who, forunately, never took himself too seriously. If he reads this, perhaps he'll make an appearance here (but I wouldn't hold my breath). Bottom line: Leland Milton Goldblatt is a figment of his own imagination. He doesn't exist".

    Without prejudice; Dr. Goldblatt pontificates:

Many times the Air Force would buy out terms, during peace time. With an honorable resume as he has. I am sure we would never embellish his credentials.

Oh, A Soldiers Who Wants To Be a Heroe.

A educated learned man will want to be a civilian.

Sticks and stones can break my bones; even names can hurt me. But the thing that hurts the most is when a man deserts me.

Don’t you think its time to weed the leaders that no longer lead From the people of the land who’d like to see their sons again?

When my son went deserted the Military, I became proud of him.

I'm sorry to hear your lover left you. Perhaps the next time you decide to go into a tranny bar you will dress the part.

That's what happens when you don't ask but tell.
