Especially since you will be signing it over to me. But you won't care after your lottery winnings.

Instead of laughing, that one made me shudder.

Given what they did to Joe Louis, I'd say your reaction is appropriate.

Thanks, Randall, for taking this thread down a dark, twisted path

I guess you have to weigh the investment in something that will likely not result in a financial return and will result in an expenditure of money and your time. My two cents would be that if you can afford it and it is something you strongly desire for personal reasons, go for it. Waiting will simply extend the time it takes to reach that goal and may result in increased cost. If you really want a doctorate then you will not rest peacefully until you earn it.

My advice would be to compromise in terms of finances and earn a doctorate (accredited equivalent) through a South African University. Someone on this board posted that they had good results in working through the University of the Free State. In this way you could earn a credible doctorate without having to mortgage your future. In fact, there was someone who posted here who had a Unisa doctorate and one from UFS. It would seem to be a way forward for you without financial guilt or worry.

The cost differential may not be so pronounced at this point. He is nearly halfway through with the EdD, and with the South African schools, he is likely to have a longer time-to-degree than if he just finishes the EdD. Opportunity cost is a factor here, and almost half his cost is already sunk.

Yes, thanks Stefen. Plus, I really like Liberty University, there is probably nowhere else I would enjoy so much. I was doing the EdD for fun as much as for anything else, and Liberty is right for me.

Most likely, I'll just take a few months off and then get right back to it.

Liberty is a very credible bricks and mortar school. If I recall correctly they have the top debate team in the country. I wish you well. Stefan certainly makes a good point. My guess is you will not be truly happy until you earn that doctorate so...

You are right. I think I will just take a few months off to see how things pan out. I'm really tired right now and a break would feel nice.

Well, it's good to know you are very content with your school! Many of us regret what we are doing before we are even finished doing it and most seem to start to wish they picked a different program the very second they graduate*. In fact, you were only partially happy with your experience with NCU, so LU clearly is a major upgrade :veryhappy:

*On this note, after years of going back, forth, up and down, I'm very happy that my final choice is TESC. However, if I wasn't already so far along, I would have done a double major in English and Mathematics rather than any of the social sciences to complement the business degree. Meh, I guess it's not THAT big of a deal since I'm not going to be an English teacher nor a Mathematician, I just think it would have been more enjoyable, more of a challenge, and nicer looking on a resume.

So it sounds like you are doing it mostly for fun, like me. What's wrong with us when we think something like all that work is fun? I think I must need a shrink.

Hm, nope, this isn't fun at all- although it was when I had just started and didn't feel like it was getting tedious and repetative. I just want it to be over with so I can have a clean conscience when getting into my other study projects. I'm actually back in procrastination mode because I'm not looking forward to my next few courses/exams. In the meantime, my chess game has improved a bit
